CREATING DXF - TOO LARGE

We just updated to Inventor Professional 2018 and found an issue creating DXFs of fairly large models. We are creating DXFs for A360 so we can send the link to customers for approval. My co-worker tried creating one and it was over 145,000 kb. I just created a DXF with the same model and it is about 9,300 kb. The original model is about 23,800 kb. We never had this issue in Inventor 2017. I believe he has his settings set back up exactly like he did before. This has happened with multiple assemblies; it isn't just one file, so I am not uploading any files.

Any ideas of what it could be? To me it sounds like he just doesn't have a setting where it should be.

Thanks,

Hi,

What kind of file you are translate to DWF? assembly or part? What's the totally size of that assembly file if it's the top assembly?

It appears that works normally in my end. Could you help send your file to me via email for a better investigation?

It is an .iam assembly file.

23, 800 kb

I would rather not send any files. This has happened with different assemblies so it is not just a certain assembly.

It works fine on my workstation but not my co-workers.

Will give it a try in my side with more data to help reproduce such problem first, then, Dev team can working on a fix.

will keep you update.

Does any of this make more sense if I say I am trying to create a 3D DWF, not a DXF? I think you said DWF in your first response anyway.

Well this is happening to me now, not just my coworker. I have an .IAM that is 7145 KB. I created a .DWF from that model on 10/4/2017 and it was 5055 KB. I just recreated the .DXF today and the size is 12884 KB. There were no changes made to this model. This is confusing.

Thanks,

I found a possible solution to this. I just worked on an assembly and created a .dxf. It was 45,664 kb. I then closed Inventor down, waited a minute, then reopened Inventor and re-created the .dxf. It was 14,150. I have done this with a few different assemblies now and it seems to work every time. Maybe it is something to do with a bunch of files being open in Inventor's "memory", I am not positive.

Hi! The behavior does not make sense to me. For a given source file and export file type, the export file size should be consistent. It should not vary. We need to see an example. If you have an example exhibiting the behavior, please let us know.

Many thanks!
