Need Help Modeling Existing Complex Plastic Part

Not sure if its me or not.. But the image you are providing doesn't really clarify this design or its just hard to make out what this thing looks like. Can you provide additional orientations and etc.

What version of Inventor are you using?

Have you made any attempt in Inventor? IF so provide what you have?

Is there any dimensional drawing or catalog information or something that represents this?

Hi Michael,

Based on the image, this part looks pretty straight forward. You could create a triangular extrusion and then cut from the side. Add a small triangular extrusion on the upper left. You will get the main body fairly quickly. The rest is detail.

If you don't understand what I am talking about above, this means that you need to study Inventor tutorials or other instructional materials. Is this a production part or a school project?

BTW, please do not use all capital letters in the subject or the posting. It is considered yelling at people. This is a professional forum. People deserve to be treated professionally.

I'd create few (3: top bottom and point near the top where fin starts to appear ) section sketches (not necessary parallel) with 2 guide rails and loft the whole thing... There literally endless possibilities to approach this task. 🙂 Good Luck!

I agree more pictures are needed at different angles to see the shape better..

In addition to what the others have said, can you provide us with an idea of how much Inventor training you have had? It would help if we knew if we were helping an expert versus a brand new user.

Also, it works much nicer if you place your images in your message, instead of attaching them as files. When you are typing your message, there is a photo button in the tool bar that will place your selected image file right in the body of the message. Much easier than having to download your attachment, scan it for viruses, and then open it.

I changed your title so you will get better replies, in the future if you describe what you need help with you will have more people find your question and get answers quickly.

Put something in the picture for scale, or better yet, draw a 1" line with a sharpie that is flush with the picture angle. Meaning if you're taking a Right view don't draw on the angle edge as it will be a skewed distance, draw horizontally.

I would first take 6 pictures: Front, Left, Back, Right, Top, Bottom. Make sure they are as straight on as possible.

Create a new part. Create 2D Sketch on the Front Plane (typically the XY Plane). Insert your front image.

Draw a 1" line. Drag the image to Scale of the line and make sure that the main working edge (table) is horizontal.

Select edges of the Image Boundary Box and select Fix Constraint so it does not move.

As you can see this image is skewed so it will not be as accurate.

Trace your profile outline.

Repeat steps for Top and Right.

If you need additional features you can do for Left and bottom, but only three sides should be necessary to get a general shape.

You can then use Extrude Solid and Extrude Intersect to create your shape.

Complete this, post your pictures and your attempt. After that we can give you more advice.
