Working Window Won't Maximize Inventor 2017

I am having this issue in 2017 version. Many times when I have several files open it will revert back to minimizing the child window, and in order to change it I have to close Inventor then go into the registry and change the value back to 1. I have downloaded the latest patches from the desktop app, but the bug still occurs. Anyone know of any other fixes to make this value in the registry more permanent?

Hi John,

I have to manually change the registry key so the child window is maximized within the inventor application. If I, for example, have an assembly open and then try to open one of the sub assemblies or parts the new window opens with a window border as if it is a separate windows explorer window. Sometimes it will snap back to maximized and the tabs will appear at the bottom of the screen. However, sometimes it does not and windows will start to cascade on top of each other as if I minimized one in the top right of the child window. If this occurs, I have to exit the entire application and open the registry to change the value, otherwise every subsequent session the child windows will cascade. The odd thing is, even if I close all my models and Inventor.exe is still running when I open the registry it shows the value as "1". If I close out completely and then reopen the registry this value then becomes "0". It does it at seemingly random times and has been occurring for several months now. I have already reinstalled hoping that may fix it, but no luck. Thanks in advance.

What version of Windows are you working with?

What is the Windows DPI or scaling set to?

Does it matter if the main Inventor application is maximized or not?

Any custom addins for Inventor?

How many files do you generally have open at a time?

Hi Danny,

- I am using Windows 7 Professional SP1.

- DPI is set to 120, or the medium setting under Display.

- It occurs regardless if the application is maximized or not.

- No custom add-ins I am aware of, we are using 2017 Professional with the standard factory add-ins.

- Generally have 5 files open at once. Usually 2 assemblies and 3 components.

Any one find a good answer to this.

I an having the same issue with Build 227 2018.2.3

Left click on the left side of window will work, but double click on window and the minimize and maximize buttons are not working.

From the descriptions I wasn't able to recreate what you are experiencing.

Check that you don't have any background instances of Inventor open using the TaskManager. If not, try holding down the "Control" key when you select the "X" to close Inventor. Make sure that you have set Inventor to Maximum before doing this.

This sounds more like a Windows Registry issue than Inventor. Also check that you have Administrative Privileges for your Windows account.

It is a little hard to see, but the maximize button will not work.

Double click on border will not work.

Only solution is the left click on the left side of the window and select maximize.

@Anonymous thanks for supplying the screencast. Just to update, the development team has been investigating and cannot seem to reproduce the issue.

Is there anything customized or specific about your setup that would be causing this?

It sounds like your MaximizeChildWindows in the Registry somehow will change to 0.

Something not mentioned prior, are your graphics drivers and Inventor updates current?

If you can think of any further information to provide for investigation that would be helpful, but cannot seem to pinpoint yet why that is changing.

Nvidia Quadro P5000

Laptop + Three monitors

Thru a plugable USB C 4K docking station.

All four screens must be set to the same resolution / test size / orientation and the problem goes away.

If any are changed the problem comes back.
