Hi All,

After reading some information on the web i think there is no solution to my (customer) question....but here it goes:

What is the best method (if there is) to import BIM IFC files in to Inventor 2018?

I already tested open in AutoCAD, export as step file, but without success.

What the customer needs is to just use the IFC as a solid in Inventor to work over it.

Open in Navisworks:

Thanks a lot

Can they get a step file instead of IFC to work with? I'd think those programs have other export options that Inventor can work with..

You might also be able to find an IFC viewer that can export STEP files or similar..

Show your support for adding that functionality in the future..

Hello,

We use the 'FZKViewer'-program from Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) to convert the IFC files.

FZKViewer can open an IFC-file and export it to STEP.

You can download the program here:

https://www.iai.kit.edu/1302.php

I hope the program can work for you as a workaround.

Kind regards,

Robert Benjamins

Bumping this post since I'm having a similar problem.

We have a large scale IFC model made with Autocad - Magicad extension that opens up nicely on Navisworks.

Our partner needs this in .stp -format, and so far we haven't been able to provide them what they need.

IFC import in Inventor 2019 would be highly needed!

Another solution:

Download Ifcconvert from http://ifcopenshell.org/ifcconvert

You can convert an .IFC to .STP but it takes a very long time for large assemblies. Better convert it to .OBJ and import it directly in Inventor, Check for the right scale. Use "options" button while opening the .OBJ in Inventor.

The standard unit for .IFC is Meters.

(I am using Inventor 2020)
