Hello

I run Inventor Pro 2024.

How can i redefine x, y, z in my assembly?

Sometimes the part that i insert isn´t correct in any way if you compare it with the cube.

It must be a easy way to fix that.

The attached file is a sandwich wall that a need to change.

i need it to be as i marked the surface in the model.

/J

Hi!

you have to upload also the parts.
The files iam dont carry the files ipt inside, only the links how parts are connected.

Anyway, you can't change the xyz directions in any CAD software, but... you can change the cube orientation.

Since you cannot change the XYZ, you can place the parts with constrains, respecting the direction you need.

The attached file can't be opened because you didn't include the parts. An assembly doesn't contain the geometry, just locating information for the parts. The part files have all of the geometry.

That being said, no, there isn't really a way to redefine the coordinate system of the assembly. The problem is most likely that the parts were built in an odd orientation. The assembly probably isn't the source of the issue.

When placing a component, right click and you will find Rotate X 90°, Rotate Y 90°, and Rotate Z 90° commands. You can use those to orient the component you are placing in 90 degree increments before placing it. Then you can use Place Grounded at Origin to nail it in place (if appropriate) or use Constraints and/or Joints to relate it to other components or the origin.

Hi! Is the issue about the ViewCube (view orientation) inconsistent with the XYZ? Or, you do want to redefine the coordinate system with respect to the geometry?

Here is a short video showing the workflow to reset ViewCube so it is in Z-up orientation.

Many thanks!

Hi!

This issue happening now is probably because you have different specs (regarding orientation) between parts and assemblies.

Following the video, you can set the assembly template and the parts templates (solid and sheet metal) with the same orientations, the orientations that you need.

That's what i did for my templates, and now i don't have to worry about rotate the parts when I'm placing them in the assembly.

Open the templates (iam and both ipt)

Reset the cube orientation

set correct orientation (following the video instructions)

Save the changes as a new template, and the future files will be fine.

Note: The work already done, you will have to change it manually thou, this will only affect the new jobs.

Hi! In most cases, it is about the ViewCube not aligned to the XYZ desirably, not the geometry misaligned to XYZ (modeling issue).

Another thing you may want to do is to enable all origin planes in your iam and ipt files. This will avoid the automatic isometric view rotation when you try to create a new sketch. The auto rotation helps new MCAD users to select a plane before creating a 2D sketch. However, it rotates the model to Y-up biased isometric view.

Many thanks!

None of that has any effect on the assembly coordinate system. Also, the assembly coordinate system is a fixed thing that can't be redefined.

I'm not sure we understand the problem you're trying to describe.

When the problem occurs, neither the cube nor the XYZ symbol on the lower left matches any of the surfaces on the model,
the model is completely lost.

Hi! If it is in an assembly, maybe the part is placed very far away from the origin. Please right-click on the part in the browser -> iProperties -> Occurrences -> check the offset values. Reset them to zero so that the part is moved back closer to the origin.

Many thanks!
