Inventor Assembly Keep Color When Converting to Step File

Hi all

Please can someone help me how do i keep colours saved on iam assemble after when moving it into a Step file.

I have highlighted some componets/parts which i have been working on which is perfect on iam file. But when i save it on Step file l loose the highlight colouring.

Of the 2 STEP format options I believe you need to use AP214 VS 203 to retain color information..

mcgyvr iam using inventor 2015 and on the step file saving option i cant see AP214 VS 203. Do i need to download it as at extra software option/

You should have it.. I thought thats been around since 2014 and earlier..

Here is the help for Inventor 2014 that shows the ability to select the desired format..

Thanks pal but its not the case i have been doing the very same way you just said but once i move the part into step file the new added colour doesnt show

Hi! I am sorry I am confused. This should work. I have tried in on all releases I have. The color is retained on import. Please attach an example here. Or, record a Screencast showing the exact workflow. I am missing something here.

Thank you very much for your responce, if does work wit parts l make myself but it's refusing with the past l import from my company website. Unfortunate l am at home now but l will upload the drawings tomorrow when l get to work.

Hi! Then I guess the color was not in the exported STEP file. Could you attach the STEP file here tomorrow? Also do you know what CAD system generated the STEP file?

i have attached the 2 files Mod practise has colour and Mod practise 2 does not have colour and is the step file version.

image files are not helpful..

Please attach the step file that is not coming in with the colors properly assigned and let us know what color you expect it to show once imported..

my first normal assembly with colourStep file without colour. I am trying to save the step file in a way that it would return the colours for example the blue shown on the first diagram

Hi @Anonymous,

In the *.ipt files, expand the browser and find the Solid Bodies folder. In the Solid bodies folder select the body or bodies and choose Properties from the right click menu. In the resulting dialog choose Strip Color Overrides ( or something similar).

I am going from memory on the steps described above, but removing the color overrides is likely the action that you need to take to get the results you're after. I'll try to check back later this morning when I'm looking at Inventor, to ensure I've not miss-remembered the steps.

Thank you very much for help but my step files also comes with iam not with itp. This makes it impossible to view the solid part option.
