Hello,
I have Inventor 2016 provided by the company that I work for. I am also a student at the same time and some projects require to use for example FEM analysis that is not provided by stock Inv 16 that I got from my employer. As a student I have access to for example Inventor pro 2018 student version.
The question is:
-is it possible to have 2 different Inventors on same pc?

-does it make a problem (license wise) to have one for commercial work and the other for uni (not used in any other way)?

Thank's in advance for reply.

You can have different versions on same machine. Each is a separate license.

Just be careful to not save any of the commercial work on the student license.

To add to JD's post, any files saved as IV2018 files will not be opened by the IV0216 version. You will need to export the IV2018 files to a neutral format and then import them into the IV2016.

hi,

better you ask first to IT Administrator, because if you use trial or student version, Autodesk have a rule.

student version just for learning, license for make a profit for you company, if company use student version for make profit, Autodesk will alert you company, or maybe got penalty.

For brief time periods, I have had as many as 3 versions on the same computer (whatever version my company was on, the most current release, and a beta version). I nearly always have at least two versions. I haven't run into any problems with it - you just have to pay attention to what you are doing and not accidentally save your 2016 files in 2018.

Of course, it's not allowed by the license agreement to use the student version for commercial work. But the more immediate problem will be that your company that is still using 2016 won't be able to open the files anymore, so you'll end up having to repeat work.

I would recommend storing your files in very distinct folders (with "Work" and "School" or "2016" and "2018" in the folder names), and using them completely separately (ex. don't try to use any of your "school" parts in your "work" assemblies). That way you're less likely to unintentionally migrate a file from 2016 to 2018 and lock your company version out of opening it.
