HI

Have created a 3D sketch and used the surface patch tool to fill in the object with success. The sculpt function will not turn it in to a solid. keeps sending he error message. I have redrawn it from scratch. I have also tried on a different simple geometric shape and the command will not work.

Image of error and file that needs to be converted to solid.

thanks

Nigel

I am not sure why Sculpt does not work on this multi-panel surface but I have seen it before. When it happens I switch to the original method of converting the panels together by using the "Stitch" command. Use a crossing window to select to be sure you get all of your surfaces and the solid develops just fine. I have attached you file in Inventor 2008, I hope you can use it.

I find your "Home" view interesting.

Hi

Thanks, looks great. why cant I export the faces to dxf? Is it because its not a solid?

Need the individual shapes for the CNC 🙂

thx

How about a "solution that does not require any 3D sketches and is easy to adjust the dimensions (see attached)?

Are you looking for flat panels for each face?

That is what I thought.

This changes everything.

Your current design does not meet your design intent or real world physical possibility.

Unfortunately I am shutting down just now and will not be able to demonstrate the errors in logic and then how to do it right until tomorrow.

Maybe someone else will come along and help.

This is the key problem statement:

Material is 4mm ALU edges are square cut on a Plasma CNC machine

HI,

All ALU plate boats are cut on a CNC and then welded together. The vast majority have hull flair or shape and the edges of the pieces that make up the bow have tension in them. AKA they are pulled together with a 2 tonne comealong and then welded.

I say this as I assume you are talking about he middle panel in the model that is twisted?

NM

Hi! Boundary Patch is also considered freeform tool, meaning the geometry may not be unique. In this case, Boundary Patch creates surfaces with gaps. As a result, the Sculpt does not create a solid. You can use Stitch to seal the gaps and turn it into a solid.

Many thanks!
