When i copied a numbered list from ACad to Inventor, some formatting was carried over some it didn't. Biggest issue is visual, as you can see on the attached image. Tab settings.. is there a setting that could control this? I don't see that Inventor has the same text editor capabilities as ACad...

HPsteam,

Good afternoon! I'm sorry to read of your troubles with text copying, but it looks like you are correct, Inventor doesn't seem to have as many text variations as AutoCAD. However, there are a couple of ways to get the text into Inventor, formatted more to your liking.

- The first step is to delete the number in front of each line (or wrapped line) of text and then replace it with the Inventor number scheme. That seems to get all of the text to indent the same amount.

- The second approach is to create a block of the text(s) (create individual blocks for each text note) and then save the drawing in AutoCAD. Inside Inventor, expand the Drawing Resources Node in the Browser and then Right-Click on the AutoCAD Blocks folder to "Import AutoCAD Block". Navigate to the saved drawing and then insert whichever blocks you wish. It should show up in the roster of AutoCAD blocks and you can place from there. (Test this out on one before importing more, as it didn't allow for text font changes and may not look the way that you want it to)

These are more workarounds, but if you have any questions on them, please let me know and I can try to make a video demonstrating the techniques. Also, you may want to consider posting this to the Inventor Ideas to help improve the product. Based on your tag line, it sounds like Inventor may not have been your first choice, so don't be afraid to voice ways the software can be improved and hopefully it will continue to improve as you get more used to it. Hope this helps and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

Unfortunately, Inventor still does not support hanging indents like AutoCAD.

For example, start a numbered list, type a line, and then press SHIFT+ENTER.

The new line should be indented to the same level, but it doesn't.

This is supported in AutoCAD.

Years of waiting for this feature to be implemented in Inventor.

Regards,

Hi Jerry,

I am very sorry that this wish has not been fulfilled. It is true that the Text Editor has a lot of room for improvement. The same holds true in various degrees in different parts of Inventor. Unfortunately, Text Editor has not been a focus in Inventor, since there are better tools to do that like Word, AutoCAD, and others. Inventor cannot compete with Word on text editing, just as it cannot compete with 3D Max on video rendering.

I understand your frustration but the team has to make hard choices on what to pursue next. Unfortunately, this particular one does not rank high on the ever-running long list.

Many thanks!

Johnson,

No one's asking for Microsoft Word-like editing features. We're not even asking for Wordstar-like editing features or even LATEX-like features.

How about AutoDesk puts in the effort?
