2018 Style Library Manager Failure JIT Debugging .NET Framework

I've just installed IV2018, so I need to import some dimension styles from my 2017 Design Data folder. So fire up the ever-problematic Style Library Manager to do a migrate and then transfer my few dim styles to the standard Style Library that ships with 2018.

When I launch 2018 Style Library Manager, it gives an error (see error message stack below and screen shot).

I can click the Continue button and it will proceed but the UI is still wonky and it giver another error whenever I mouse over the dropdown control to select the old Style Library I want to select in the "Style Library 1" panel.

We would need more in the JIT message. There should be listed the faulty app or interface. Can you check?

The App is the Style Library Manager.

I can see from the message text a reference to a method call at:

Autodesk.AutodeskInventor.StyleManager.StyleLibrary.DetermineDifferences(String& styleCollectionInternalName, StyleLibrary& firstStyleLibrary, StyleLibrary& secondStyleLibrary)

So, you see the failure happened at the attempt to call the method call DetermineDifferences(), but that could not happen because one of the object references yielded the classic "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error.

Anyway, here is the entire contents of the text in the error message, but I don't think it adds anything helpful, as all it shows is "Loaded Assemblies" which is just a list of .Net assemblies that are active in the call stack or something. I see some technical instructions about a .config and JIT debugging... I'm a little bit familiar with .Net debugging from my work in .Net and C#, and I also have Visual Studio 2017 installed on my machine, so I created a "Style Library Manager.exe.config" in the same folder as "Style Manager Library.exe.", and added the required xml code to it, then I re-ran the app but it still only give me the standard catch-all error handler that I showed you so far. I can dig deeper, but will need some some instructions from your developer folks to get that low level.

I even attached the Visual Studio debugger directly to the process which was running the app and it still does not pick up the stack trace.

Hi! The behavior does sound like .Net related. It is possible the .Net was not properly installed. Could you close Inventor 2018 and try Repair Install? Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> find Autodesk Inventor Professional 2018 -> right-click -> Uninstall/Change -> Repair Install. Pleas report back with your findings.

I'm having the same issue. Tried the repair option reinstall which didn't fix the problem. Created support case with Autodesk.

I currently have global admin rights in my company and my local computer. I also tried running Inventor & Style Library Manager as administrator as instructed. There were no changes to the issues I'm having in inventor, and the style library manager will not even load when selecting "run as Administrator"

Can you try doing a repair or reinstall of the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 or 4.6 depending on what you have installed, then reboot and try Style Manager again.

Depending on the version on Windows you are using it probably shows up under the Turn Windows Features On or Off list, but yes installing .NET 4.7 should also help.

Only other thing I can think to try is the Microsoft .NET Repair Tools to see if it can fix the .NET installs.

I tried that too, didn't resolve the issue. I created a support case with Autodesk (Case ID: 14095645) 4/6/18 morning and still no response from them either.

Hi! Are you still running Inventor 2018? Or you are seeing a similar error on later releases. I suggest you start a new thread with a description of the failed behavior or a screenshot.

In the meantime, you may want to completely uninstall Inventor and uninstall the dependent .Net (release specific). Make sure all the critical Windows updates, the latest graphics driver, and all the critical PC vendor updates are installed. Then reinstall Inventor.
