Invention Drawing Rib Section Hatch Visibility Problems

The ribs are not showing up right. Ribs are not to have hatching on the them in the section view. How do I fix this?

Hi! Simply right-click on the hatch on the rib -> Hide.

Hi! Many thanks for providing the example! I tried right-click on the hatch -> Hide workflow in 2016 and it works for me (see attached dwg).

Unfortunately it is not correct - does not match standards (I use ANSI/ASME).

Many thanks for the video! I am learning something new everyday! I have attached the 2016 files so the OP can take a look. I did modify the approach a little bit. Instead of using sketch based geometry, I use offset surface. The result should be the same but it saves a few mouse-clicks.

I think there should be an option in Section View to not Hatch Rib features.

Of course this would be limited to Ribs created with the Rib feature tool.

Sounds like a good idea for the ideastation.

Thanks @JDMather for the explanation and reference to the book.

I am a bit surprised at the etiquette for sectioning ribs as in my mind I don't really care that it's a rib, it's material being sectioned which is what the section is supposed to show.

To me, the view doesn't convey any more pertinent information for manufacturing the part, just obscures the information even more.

Below is not to specs, but would a hatch going the other direction with hidden lines for the background be more or less misleading?

This is more of a semantic argument of preference and I agree that in a section hidden lines are not typical. The thick lines show the outline of the sectioned area with the hidden defining the rib with hatch separating from the body.

Personally, regardless of spec requirements, I think that below would be the best way to convey all of the necessary manufacturing information on the part.

I'm very out of practice with adhering to spec requirements, and often didn't agree with them when I was using them everyday!

No doubt there is a more detail explanation in the book as to why things are setup as such, thanks for sharing.

Well, while we on the topic of Standards - Holes are usually dimensioned in circular view and Cylinders dimensioned where they appear in the rectangular view (with Ø symbol).

A lot of this stuff goes back to drawing board days and often needs to be adjusted for 3D CAD (fillets on castings are a problem in CAD, where we simplified (fudged) back in the day).

Bottom line though - I hear a lot of old-timers complain that today nobody knows how to create an aesthetic 2D drawing and blame it on CAD. CAD isn't the issue, it is the user sitting in the seat operating the CAD.
