Ask Anything About Inventor!

Are you a student?
Are you just starting a new position and have to learn new software?
Are you learning Inventor for the first or second or THIRD time?
Are you worried about sounding like a dunce?

If you have questions on how to use Inventor, if you are having technical problems running it on your computer, or just need a reality check on how you are using the product, you have come to the right place.

No post or question should be considered too simple. This Community forum is here to address ALL of your questions and if you don't like my answers or suggestions, there are plenty of super-helpful Community members that are here giving their time to help you as well.

Please include your Inventor version with your questions so we can reply with attached parts you can actually open.

Don't be shy or feel intimidated, we all like drawing and designing stuff!

Ive been using Inventor since release 10 I think,,,I have designed drug processing systems, particle accelerator layouts and components, and now robotic manufacturing machines over the last 15 yrs or so, along with a few other things I cant mention. .. I am still only scratching the surface of learning Inventor...I see the things you other guys have done or are doing, and realize I still have a lot to learn. Id almost be embarrassed to say how much I really dont know..lol, But as they say, if you stop learning, you stop growing..I recently took a hiatus in my Inventor use for about 2 yrs to work on a nuclear project. Coming back to it after this long is like starting over in some ways..I have driven my coworkers crazy with my questions about how to do things I have forgotten or only partially remember..lol..

That being said, I dont think there is a better place on the internet to ask questions, get advice, and learn how to do something.

When will we see a 2018.2.3 ... or fix?

2018.2 and up has been pulled from

it's confusing because they have the readme available for 2018.2.2 but it was pulled...

Hi Dale, and welcome.

I recommend posting this question in a new thread. In this "welcome" thread, your question will probably get buried, and not seen by many people. Also, once it is marked as solved, it can be found by others doing google searches of the same question later.

@mdavis22569 as you know the 2018.2.2 release was pulled as there was an issue with it.

The next 2018.2.3 is not something that I have authority to divulge, but can tell you that we are actively testing and would like to have it to you soon.

For the most up to date information on updates and future info the Beta Test Group would be the best location for things like that.

I'm good ... it's been fixed, but when I posted, there was a readme to the 2018.2.2 and that was confusing.

I was getting asked where it was since they couldn't find it, but it was listed.

Then I had to explain that it pulled...

Hi! 2018.2.3 is under going the final phase of validation. The date stamp behavior will be restored to 2018.2 and earlier behavior. The patch should be available soon. I am sorry for the delay.

I am student and I am in my final exam I did all except Nozzle950 drawing. I could not find a guide how I can start, and with Inventor or solidwok, pls I need help I have 26 days struggling Thanks

Sounds like you are struggling with the course, have you asked your instructor and classmates for assistance yet? That would be my first recommendation.

I'm not sure what you're referring to with the Nozzle950 drawing, do you have an example you could attach with a detailed description of where you are getting stuck?

We won't do the work for you, but if you can provide a bit more information that would be helpful in getting you moving forward.

I'm familiar with writing .NET add-ins but have never have always shied away from the idea of messing with the Vault API.

Do you have an advice for getting started? How easy is the Vault API to work with? How easy is it to get and add-in connected to a Vault database?

The specific thing which would have been useful to me in the past would be to know how to search for and retrieve components from Vault. (I have created a few 3D configurators in the past which function by dropping components with iMates into an assembly.)

Hello @waynehelley are familiar with the Inventor Customization Forum or Vault Customization Forum?

For iLogic, VBA, API, and other custom endeavors that would be the place to post for best results.

Here is a good example post:

Use Inventor Vault Add-in through Inventor API

To get started I would do a classic Internet Search to see if it has been answered at other locations like:

If a good topic doesn't pop up immediately go to the Inventor Community landing page and Vault Community landing page and search from this location at the right side to look through all of the different forums using simple keywords to describe your question.

The SDK (shipped with vault server) also contains a number of samples.

Search through the AKN Articles and Help Topics.

After a search here's a good bit of information:

Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

What I think you are looking for is to retain the model tree so you can edit the features in each program.

This is difficult to do as the companies are not linked and so they each have to translate and interpret the model data.

In the Autodesk App Store you can try Feature Recognition and see if that works for you!
