@RSNewton59 the only way I can think to do that is to change the Dimension Style Origin Offset to something larger.

You can create a custom Dimension Style for just this dimension and change to it when needed.

Not the best but that is about as close as I think you can get for that situation.

Hope that helps!

Editing Virtual sharps.

I have some parts where I need to create overall dimensions etc. I don't know whether I am too 'old school' or not but I don't like to see dimension lines crossing, so I have created some virtual sharps to define the outer boundaries of the components. Consider if you will, a rectangular box with, say, rounded corners.

However these virtual sharps have the same offset as the dimensions, are effectively the same as the dimensions. I know I used to have options for them in S*lidw*rks (Can I say that here?) but I can't seem to figure out how to do it in Inventor.

I can create sketch points on the view and dimension to them but this seems a proper faff on for what should be a simple task.

Thanks all.

Can you attach a simple example here?

I think I know exactly what you want, but I am confused about whether you are in a part (*.ipt) or a drawing (*.idw or *.dwg).

Hmm, I'll try.

You can see the virtual sharp extends from the intersection of the radius and straight edge to the intersect with the virtual edge. All I am after is a simple cross (point, if you will) at the intersection of the two edges. In this example it's a reference dimension and the intent of the dimension is obvious in the context of the whole drawing.

This is working in a drawing (dwg)

Thank you

Also, I can sketch (eg a rectangle) lined up with projected geometry and dimension from that and then turn the sketch layer visibility off,. But again, that seems a bit of a faff.
