Thumbnail preview not working

Hi,

I have AutoCAD 2018, Inventor 2018 and windows 10..

The thumbnail preview on any AutoCAD file is working but is not on Inventor..

I already tried unchecking the box "Always show icons, never thumbnails" on the control panel but it does not work, also the Inventor files are linked to use by default the right program..

Any idea how can I fix this?

Is this a new install?
Did it ever work?
Have you run Inventor since it was installed?
Run the Inventor Reset Utility.

Yes, I got a new computer about 2 weeks ago, this Inventor version is new as well and haven't figured out yet.. it was working on my old computer that had Inventor 2014..

Hi! We are aware of a thumbnail related issues when some of the bodies are invisible in the part. Does it happen to any file you file or just some? If you create a box and save it, does thumbnail work correctly?

It happens with an inventor part or assembly, it works for AutoCAD

Hi! I worked with the project team to understand the behavior better. There is actually a technical document on Autodesk Knowledge Network. Could you take a look and apply the change to see if it works for you?

Is there a patch that we can install to keep this from happening? Cause in the last 2 weeks, we have lost our thumbnails twice and this fixes the issue.

Yes, it did work, but I have had to do this fix twice in 2 weeks. I am doing 2 things. I am OKing the UAC and I am going into my File Explorer and change my setting to NOT show icons and restarting my computer. Something in Inventor seems to be changing my settings cause it is happening when I save a file from within Inventor.

My computer system is win10.
The Inventor version is 2018.
Both the system and the Inventor software have just been installed. The Inventor software does not have any settings。 But the new parts i just built do not display thumbnails.There is also no command on the right-click menu for Inventor.

I have confirmed the following two operations:

"Always show icons, never thumbnails" check box is not selected.

UAC: Never Notify

Hi! We do have some issues with thumbnails. Some are related to Windows and the environment. Some are not. We are aware of a particular issue on 2019. It has been reported as INVGEN-17819. The latest status shows the issue will be fixed in the coming 2019.2 update.

The thumbnail issue is back again on Inventor 2020 and Windows 10 on files streamed from Google Drive File Stream and no, the UAC solution does not work.

Are you having this issue with all your folders on Google Drive and How many files in the folders?

Hi Danny, they were files on the drive created by Google Drive File Stream.
I have since disabled Google Drive File Stream and reinstalled Google
Backup and Sync to see whether it makes any difference at all, but it did
not resolve my issue. The funny thing is that when I'm in the Windows File
Explorer and select either Extra Large or Large Icons from the View menu,
then I can see the thumbnails, but not from inside Inventor itself when you
click File Open.

Hi Danny, only File Explorer shows thumbnails, but not Inventor 2020. I am
unable to view the thumbnails from within Inventor 2020 when you click file
open.
