Can not split the solid?

I am trying to constrain the skinReconstruted file with the testSkull file. I have troubles when I try to constrain them together I think it is mainly because something weird happened in skinReconstructed.

And When I tried to subtract the testSkull from the skinReconstructe with "Copy object" and split. It won't let me click "OK". I hope somebody can help

me. I appreciate it!

Do you have a mesh body or a solid body?

Have you installed the AutodeskMeshEnabler?

Have you installed the latest Service Packs and Updates for your version of Inventor?

Are you sure that you attached the correct files here?

What do you see when you download and open testSkull.ipt (attach image here)?

Can you attach your assembly file here?

Hello,

I think my part is a meshed body at the beginning, which was a stl file that was generated from Meshlab. Then, I saved it as a ipt and started working with it.

Do you mean I use AutodeskMeshEnabler to do the stl part first, and then it can be subtracted?

You need to convert the stl file to contain solid bodies first..

This addin will do it..

Hi! "skinReconstruction.ipt" contains mesh geometry. Could you elaborate what you exactly want to do here?

Hello, what I am trying to do is first get the opt file to be a solid. Because right now the inside is empty, so I would like to know how to get the inside filled.

Then, I want to put a solid inside the skin and subtract the solid volume that I put in.

Hello @Anonymous if you use the Mesh Enabler that @JDMather shared you will be able to turn the mesh into a composite surface and sculpt to create a solid body.

You can then use solid modeling tools to make your extrusion cut/split.

You are doing too much work.

You can convert directly in to a Solid rather than composite surface and sculpt. Get lazy!

What is the difference if I convert it to Composite or convert it to Solid as future modifying purpose?

Hi! If you convert the mesh to Composite, you will need to stitch the Composite to a solid and then you can edit the solid however you want. The ability to edit Composite is quite limited because it is like a collector of surface bodies and solid bodies. There are very few geometry creation command interacting with Composite (Thicken and Stitch are exceptions).

If I were you, I would try to convert it to a solid. However, the solid body will have a lot of faces and edges (coming from the mesh). It can be quite complicated and it would limit the editability. Could you elaborate what "edit" you are trying to do?
