Replace existing part with modified part

Hello All,

I'm new to Inventor, and I would like to know if there is an easy way to replace an existing part with a modified one.

Detailing: I have a part that is used in many assemblies. I have modified the existing part with the required changes and saved it in a different folder by creating a new part number as a prototype. How can I replace an existing part with a prototype part without making all the changes again?

Welcome to the forum.

In your assembly you can select the original component, right mouse click and go to Component\Replace. Then navigate to the folder where the new part is and select that. Depending on what you changes in your prototype, the new part will take the place of the original, but you still might need to fix or add constraints.

You would need to do this in every assembly where you wanted to make this change.

Save & Replace is the best way of doing this, saves a copy of the part and swaps it in the assembly so you can edit it.
