Before inventor 2018 we could use ipart with more than 1000 row by changing value in the registry,

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/being-inventive-blog-a-strange-case-of-ipart-claustrophobia-in/td-p/2713583

now it's not possible anymore, what is up Autodesk!

now we have a library of hardware of multiple ipart sometime going over 10000 row that we have been using since 2011...

Before you tell me to split them up, NO it's not possible everything is linked to those iparts, not gonna happen. Anyway they are bolts and nut and hardware in up to 20 different material that we frequently flip by hand and by iLogic. So we are not going over 7 years and 200K$+ of work again.

in the current state of affair my VP tell me that he is ******, and that if we just lost 8 month of work over those years, that we will screw 2018 and stay on 2017 until the end of time

So i Need a solution ASAP to change the maximum of ipart shown in a model.

Please update to Inventor 2018.2.3 there is a bug that was addressed in 2018.2.3 dealing with ipart tables with threads,etc...

That "may" be something that fixes this issue..

You "may" need to restore your 2017 ipart and remigrate again and try again to see if that fixes it.. If not it seems this may be a different issue and not related to the row limit (well .. I can certainly create more than 10000 rows as shown)

Unexpected exit on editing an iPart when thread tables do not exist. (INVGEN-11599)

So its clear.. I certainly see the issue even with 2018.2.3 loaded but I'm not sure if the file is already corrupt so I cannot comment on if the 2018.2.3 update would do anything or not..

But it seems you have just found another bug..

As its somewhat of a holiday in the US some Autodesk employees "may" have the day off.. Not sure on that..

I have paged Johnson and he can get this bug confirmed/addressed and provided more information..

And maybe confirm if the issue is present in 2019 too also..

Sounds like this could be a show stopper though until this bug get addressed..

Is this preventing you from placing that part? (I didn't go that far).. Or from changing components in an assembly?

If not you "may" be able to just keep going.. ignore the fact its not showing all the members and continue on knowing a fix should be coming.. (it can take a bit though)

@mcgyvrAfter digging deep in it, the bug is related to the keys.

I tried starting from a blank screw, and copying the table but it would bug.

Then i tried going column by column, and when i came upon a keyed column, the member list would disappear.

Then i went on to copy that same column with the heading with <key/>XXX<key> removed from it, and by magic it does show the member.

So i went into a freshly migrated part and removed all the key and by magic all member show up.

I then created a new part from scratch in 2018, added 2000 row, and it worked perfectly until i added a key, then even in a natively 2018 ipart the list of member would disappear.

Therefore the bug is with the ipart key not being able to see more than 1000 instances...

Quite a show killer indeed!

Hi! My business laptop just died the other day. I don’t have access to Inventor 2018 at the moment. I could be wrong but I recalled the behavior change hallened a while ago. We tried to discourage the usage of key column since it creates file naming confusion and browser display performance issues. This is why the row limit was in place. I will get back to you when l have access to 2018.

Many thanks!

Firstly, Thank you @mcgyvr for the help here.

Hi @yvandelafontaine,

One thing to confirm that there is nothing changed between Inventor 2017 and 2018 around iPart authorization as well as table generation.

I took a look at those two files, one is the original (Say A) and the other one is that buggy case (Say B). I manually open A and save it in 2018 after rebuild all and reopen in 2018, it remain the same with 2017. In addition, place the part to a newly created assembly, all members are listed when switch to table tab. Which means, there is nothing changed and it works as usual in 2018 and it is expected.

However, when open B in 2018, the table is missing, but when click edit table or edit in spreadsheet, all members are listed but the description column are display in Red which means there is a corruption when try to read description information. Besides, when place it into a newly created assembly and all member are listed in the table tab as well.

by Looking into the debug massage, it shows the difference of those two files and indicated B is corrupted during migration process, is there any special workflow lead to the corruption? Could you help clarify a bit more for how to migrate such data, to be sure, the migration process need Excel installed.

In short, please go ahead with the migration process and it should be a data specific case only.

Hope it helps!

Xun, I didn't do anything special during migration and you can easily do the same yourself and get the same corruption..

I simply open the file in 2018 and saved and it prompted for migration and I let it do it..

So the "standard" migration process is corrupting it..

By default it is set by autodesk that way.

In the real world, Inventor expert would add:

a 32 bit DWORD called “MaxRowInBrowser” in registry [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion22.0\System\Preferences\Catalog] to make the row limit greater, because for user with adequate computer there was no performance issue and if there was, adding a environnement variable UseLibXL = 1 would do the trick. This used to allow a user to go through all member when building an iPart to verify it was solid and functionnal. Now in 2018 the \Catalog] portion of the registry is not available anymore. Theoretically a thousand member might seem enough but as experience has shown me and other field expert, it is often not enough for more demanding needs of the client.

1- To reproduce the bug, simply open the ipart table, remove keys from all column and you'll see all of the member appear. if you put a new key on one column you'll see them disappear

2- To fix the problem i need to have the new correct path to input that registry modification or a solution to allow control of the maximum row shown in the ipart table.

You will surely understand that i cannot go to paying Autodesk client, with years of work putted in their database, telling them that it's not longer possible to modify or create without problem something that was working perfectly under previous versions. The competition re-seller are always breathing down our neck and i'd like to have solution instead of excuses to give the clients.

Cordially

Hi Yvan,

The old trick still works. \Preferences\Catalog\ has been removed for consolidation purpose but you can still make the key manually. After that, restart Inventor and you will need to edit the table in Author dialog or in Excel -> Ok. You will see the Key view is back. I just tried it on 2018 and it works for me. Please take a look and let me know if it works for you.

Many thanks!

Hello @yvandelafontaine,

Johnson is right, the table is back once the key was added manually. Just open the buggy part again, edit table, then all members are back.

To save your time for adding the key, just download the attachment and double click to write it to your registry.

Restart Inventor to get the correct result.

Hope it helps!
