Hi, first of all, I'm sorry if I make any gross english mistake.
Also this is my first post, so feel free to to tell me if this is not the correct place to post this.

I'm a new Inventor 2018 user (came from SW background) and I'm having a weird issue (many, but this one is anoying).

When I use the parallel constraint, the lines look parallel, but if I try to give a spacing distance between them I get an angle distance instead of 179.99º

This error is very easily resolved by not using the constraints and setting a 180º angle instead, but I can't but feel this is some kind of user error and really wish to start on good bases.

Picture anexed.

Thank you very much,

Artur

Artur,

You English is fine and welcome to this forum.

Based on looking at your image, the lines are parallel to each other, but not to what ever you are dimensioning too. Make the one line parallel to that edge/line and you will get the 180°.

Hi! There should be a logical reason in this case. I suspect the geometry may not be parallel. To prove that, we need to see the part file. Please attach it here or share a simplified example.

Many thanks!

I have seen this many times, and when it happens I dimension the endpoints of the lines after using the parallel constraint. (rather than selecting the lines themselves) Sometimes this causes problems later on, but at least you can keep moving.

I would love to see this. I use both programs daily, and feel like Inventor is very far behind Solidworks. It would be great to be efficient in both programs.

A few areas that I feel are lacking in Inventor, are...

1. Designing within the context of an assembly

(In Solidworks, you can always edit the part in the assembly, in Inventor you have to make sure there are no assembly files open, and the part can also not be an ipart)

2. Apply GD&T to a drawing

3. Draft Ananlysis

(In Solidworks, you set a draft angle, and it's very easy to see surfaces that have less draft than this, you can also hover over any surface and the angle is shown. The Inventor draft analysis is so cumbersome, I export the part to SW)
