I believe that your are forgetting to export the parameters (to custom properties) the second time. Once you have created the solid bodies, you export parameters to carry them over to the Make Components assembly. Once you are in the assembly, you must edit each part and export the associated parameter per component, once again to make them available to the BOM. Take a look at my screencast for a full explanation.

Hi all,

I'm trying to work out how to export material thickness parameters from a multi-body part to use in my drawing BOM via a derived assembly. I notice that my named parameters, when I mark them for export, appear as custom iproperties in my multi-body part, but after including these parameters in the derived parts, they do not seem to appear in the derived part custom iproperties, so are not available to use in the BOM. I'm sure I've managed to do this in the past, but can't for the life of me work out how I did it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kenny

A huge thank you for taking the time to show me where I'd been going wrong. Indeed I had forgotten the step you pointed out though I'm a bit lost still as regards the custom iproperties BOM column. I have quite a number of different parts in my model with various stock thicknesses, so it'll take me a bit of time to add parameters to all these, however I was hoping that I could maybe create a custom 'material thickness' BOM column and add in the thickness parameter for each part, but I'm not sure it works like that? Then I wondered whether it was possible to create a list of stock material thicknesses, i.e. 1/2", 5/8", 1-1/2" etc and assign these parameters, which I could then apply to each part in my multi-body? Again I'm not sure if this is possible, but if it was it would a pretty useful way of using parameters.

I suggest that you take a look at creating Multi-Value parameters which can contain your stock thicknesses.

As far as the BOM, you can create it and then export it as a template using the "Export" option at the bottom of the BOM dialog box. You can then import it into any model you desire.

Please mark your question as solved if you agree to take it off the forum board.
