Can't change size of Content Center members

I have a content library loaded which allows me to add a steel profile to an assembly but when I place it I am not prompted for a length. It defaults to a length of 10mm and I'm unable to change this after placement.

I assume there is some custom check box setting I can't find, can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?

Hi Rob.

Try setting the Length column in your Family Table as shown in my first image below. Click the three dots next to the Expression window. Modify the min and max to meet your specific needs, but follow the format I show. It does take a bit of practice but when you get it right, you should see what I show in my second image when you insert one of these into your assemblies.

You can then enter whatever length you need within the acceptable range. Good luck!

Is this a custom family in your Read/Write library, or is this one of the Standard Families?

In your first post, the image you shared shows that the Library itself is indeed a Read/Write library, but I just want to make sure that the Family within the Library is also custom. Either authored & published directly from a part or ipart in Inventor, or copied from an existing Standard Family. In the Content Center Editor, a Custom Family would show up darker, whereas a Standard Family would be greyed out like in your second image. In a Standard Family, you can't make any changes. But in a Custom one, you should be able to. That's what I'm trying to narrow down. If it IS a Custom one, then we need to figure out what is preventing you from editing it.

I'm hoping the below screenshots tell you what you need to know? None of the members in my CC appear lighter, unless I need new glasses.

In the first image below I highlight the 4 channel members which belong to the "SANS" library in question.

Hi, I believe this is because you're in 'place,' you need to go to the editor on the manage tab.

Also, I don't think you can edit if this is set to 'merged'

Thanks! I should have realised that.

@CGBenner your above suggestions are making sense now that I'm operating in the Editor itself and not via the "Place" feature.

I am now able to place and set lengths of my members as expected. I do get the below message when I apply the changes to the column properties. Have I missed a step? When I click OK it does tell me the part was published successfully.

You need to go to the filename column and change that so that it's unique when generated. So in this case you probably need the length in the filename.
Otherwise it is possible to create two files with the same name - well, Windows would probably block that.
