3rd Party app wont run, log-in as different user and it runs

When I try to start my 3rd party app, it does nothing. I log back into Windows using a different user account and then the app will start and run just fine.

I uninstall/reinstall Inventor, but the problem persists. I am sure its something to do with the Windows profile, just don't know where to start to fix it.

Any ideas what to try/do to resolve it?

Hello karthur1,

I'm afraid but not sure why 3rd Party app won't run.
Please try followings.
1. Disable an monitoring application like unti-virus.
2. Remove a content of %temp% folder.
3. Set User Account Control of Windows to "Never Notify". (Reboot the machine)
4. Run the Inventor as Administrator with RMB.

Also did you use uninstall tool when reinstall Inventor? If no, please reinstall again with that.

Is this an Add-In? If yes, please go to Tools -> Add-Ins -> find the add-in and uncheck "Block."

Thanks for the suggestions. This is an add-in and it does show in my Add-ins Manager and its not blocked there. There is an icon for the add-in on the ribbon, but with the one account, it does nothing when I click the icon.

I did use the Autodesk Uninstall tool to remove all parts of Inventor.

I have already tried running Inventor "As Administrator" and the problem still persists. I will try cleaning out the %temp% folder tomorrow and disabling the anti-virus software our IT has going. The anti-virus we have is called WebRoot. I will disable it and try running "As Administrator" and see what happens.

Hi Kirk,

Have you try re-registering Inventor? Start up Windows command line (cmd) and go to Inventor \Bin\ folder and type in "Inventor.exe /install" and hit <Enter>.

My first thought would be permissions issues, and disabling UAC like Xun mentioned. Another thing to check is as the user that can't run the addin. Go to the folder "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Inventor 2018\Addins" look for an addin file for you Addin and rename it or delete it. Then start Inventor again and try your adding.

Beyond that I would think the Addin is trying to read or write to a location it doesn't have permissions to as this user like under "C:\Program Files" or in the HKEY_LocalMachine branch of the registry.

Ensure the windows date/time format is consistent between the 2 user accounts.

Also, check to make sure the windows "Show/Hide Known File Extensions" settings is the same between the 2 accounts.

If the program was done super thoroughly, they may have forgotten about these things.

The particular add-in created a .config file when it is ran to store some of the information. I copied the .config from the working user profile to the non-working users profile and it worked then.

It probably was some sort of permissions issue where windows was not allowing the addin to write to the directory, but I just never could find the actual smoking gun.

Finally got it to work though by doing that.
