Hello Pete,

Johnson is right, there is something under water to analysis pattern base position from parent, likewise, it was already true for sketch based pattern to select a specific base point pattern position.

In this case, it's not related with retrieve dimension at all, you can check it by show dimension in the part as well.

To make it simpler, create any cylinder extrusion and make a regular pattern, show dimension to get the result.

Anyway, to explore the base point reference option for normal rectangle pattern is a good enhancement candidate, does it make more sense to you?

Thanks!

All,

Good morning! So I ran across an interesting issue the other day where a user extrude cut circles and then patterned them. When retrieving the dimensions in the model, it automatically measured the pattern spacing from the quadrant points. Please see the pictures below (and files are attached) with hole features at the top right and everything else being an extrude cut. I'm guessing this is just the way it is, but am curious if anyone had seen this behavior before and had a workaround for it? I've not found one yet, but wanted to check and see. If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanks in advance for any assistance and have a most blessed day!

Hi Pete,

How are you doing? This is a bug and a limitation in the way the pattern spacing dimension is located. It has nothing to do with drawing. The issue is with the part. I suspect that the location is determined by analyzing the sketch profile consumed by the pattern source feature. In this case, it is a circular cut. The circle center is implicit. The reason why Hole works is because there is a hole center. I need to work with the project team to understand the behavior better and see what we can do. It may not be an easy fix.

In the meantime, I have found a somewhat nonsensical workaround (leading to my suspicion above). You can edit Sketch2 and create a vertical line across the circle. Split the circle at the top and the bottom. Then edit Extrusion2 to make sure both halves are selected. Now, the pattern dimension will be retrieved from the centers.

Many thanks!

Johnson,

Good afternoon and great to read from you! You call it a nonsensical workaround and I call it good enough! It is a little quirky, but will work good enough for my client. I hadn't thought to try that, so I appreciate a workaround! Please do push this up to the development team and I do like that base point idea. I'm swamped for a little spell, so if you want to create the idea and post a link here, I would gladly up-vote it. Thanks again for the assistance, both of you, and have a most blessed day!
