Wow.

The "small cube" looks more like a "mouse" graphic from years gone by.

When you say "Stuck in orbit mode", you mean it's spinning, or that's all you can do with it?

In the theme of every IT support call response, have you rebooted?...LOL...no, I mean, have you tried the ESC button?

I take it you are unable to select any other commands?

Just in case, be sure to check that nothing in leaning on or pushing on your F4 key or your space mouse.

Speaking of the Space Mouse, unplug it if you have one. Mine gets "stuck" now and then and it'll do the same type of deal, usually I'll see it zooming or rotating at a very slow speed. Oh and blow out your keyboard, I've seen keys stick and do the same thing.

Other than that, does this happen on any other workstation?

Can you post the file?

I would check for either a stuck Function key on the keyboard or mouse button. Then do a system reboot and as well as go to the website of the mouse manufacture and download the latest driver package and re-install.

It doesn't sound like you have a 3D motion controller. If you do, do a reset/recalibration of the device as well, or check that it's not stuck.

@Anonymous maybe reset the Ribbon? Not sure what else you can change as far as a setting goes to make that happen. If you can't turn the Viewcube on at all there is definitely something odd.

Well, I think I solved it....at the end of his screen cast one can see he's an Oregon Ducks fan.....j/k.

I have to agree, with everything you've done already and no resolution as well as the View Cube issue, I'd first try a Repair Install or just go right to a fresh install. But before you do that I'd highly recommend getting CCleaner if you don't already and perform your uninstall thru that app. It tends to remove more if not all fragments of the original install. I've had numerous times in the past where I had to do a reinstall and MS uninstall didn't remove everything and it errored out when I attempted to reinstall. Haven't had that issue since being told to use CCleaner...I swear by it.

@Anonymouswrote:

... I have uploaded the file onto another workstation and the file works fine.

That would seem to isolate it to the machine being the issue, but before doing an uninstall/reinstall can you run this test -

The file was created in Inventor 8, the flat pattern solver was changed after that.

Try deleting the Flat Pattern on a machine where the file will open correctly and recreate the Flat Pattern.

Save the file and then go back and try again on the machine where it will not open.

Hi @Anonymous,

I didn't read all the other replies, but did see that the Reset Utility was suggested. This issue seems very similar to the ones reported at these links, which were solved by the Reset Utility. I'm not sure that this will indeed resolve this for you but if you haven't tried it, it would be something to rule out at the least.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
http://inventortrenches.blogspot.com

I tried all the other suggestions short of the total reload of program which was next. The Reset Utility seems to have corrected the problem. Thanks for all the suggestions. I have learned some new troubleshooting along the way. I suspect the older files even though migrated helped trigger the issue coming to the forefront.
