IDW takes a long time to bring up Resolve Link Dialogue Box

Hi Guys, I had a scan on the forum but couldn't find any relevant topics to the problem we're having at my office. We work a lot with copying old designs and renaming them, this was fine in Inventor 2014 as when it realised that the file had been changed, it simply brought up the Resolve Link dialogue box. We recently upgraded to Inventor Pro 2018, so now when we search for a file after it has had it's name changed Windows says Inventor is not responding for 5 minutes before bringing up the dialogue box. I assume this is because it is searching for the file in other locations under the project file, and whilst this feature is useful some of the time, I was wondering if there is an option I can disable temporarily when I know I am going to be renaming some files, then re-enable in order to work normally. (note that due to the way we work we need to have a single project file for our entire design database due to common parts etc)

Welcome to the forum. My guess is that this is due to a setting in the Project file (*.ipj) that controls how Inventor searches for unique file names. See these related links:

Yes it could be what you described, it could also be that you have duplicate files with the same file name.

I am guessing you are not using Vault. With Vault there is a command called "Copy Design" that allows you to rename and copy at the same time without losing the files connectivity.

Thanks for the help folks. We should be upgrading to Vault soon and unfortunately it is a bit of a nightmare to modify the Project file we use so I think we'll just grin and bear it until we get the proper solution. (Using Vault I mean).
