Change properties Using 3D Model in Assembly, In order to get a more into the real picture after drilling holes etcetera

So I have a this problem with the way a feature looks when doing that in an assembly.

As one can see the two holes have the same appearance as the cast aluminium. Cause the feature does not allow to add the property off that .Wich is obviously not; cast aluminium but milled Aluminium.

So our production proces is: Casting , Milling and assemblage . And I want o keep my bill of material as it is in normal mechanical engineering life.

What Im I doing wrong?

Or if not ,my request to the Autodesk developers : Please add this option (Changing property in Assembly mode)

Just open ipt model (ex. in assembly) and change color of face.

Sorry to be not clear. It is hard to tell,

But that is not my question or request.

As you can see in my post picture I am already familiar with that option. Using that as a workaround . But doing that I mis the cast part in the (total) bill off material, because I insert the cast part into the milling part. If inserting parts into the bill off material, that also would solve this problem.

You can use Model States to show subsequent stages of production.

The ability to add face appearance was fulfilled in Finish Feature on 2024. Are you on 2024?

I don't know if this would help or not: in the machined part, make the part appearance Machined, then select all faces and change them to Cast appearance. Any features added after this will show the new faces as machined.

Hi Tonnie, I'm not totally clear on what you are asking here, but there are 3 things that could help.

Model States can help if you want to show a part before and after milling.

Finish (2024 onwards) can help with changing the appearance. The normal way of applying appearances cannot be used with assembly level features.

Instance properties may help at assembly level if you want to add additional information for your BOM.

I hope one of these is useful.

Hello Johnson , Thank you for your reply.

I am curently working in 2021 version. I did check your option,as I have the 2024 version as a tryout on my PC.

It would be the workaround I would probably would have used, if it was in the earlier versions. But still a lot off work.

A combination would be more preferable. So being able to give the feature a different appearance and if necessary also on face level.

I think I will stick to my workaround. (Waiting untill the2024 version is allowed in my company) Our products are delivered all over the world. So for marketing and education purposes the model should look the same as the real product.

I did tried the welding assy option but that does not help me eider.

Hello, have you tried the suggestion given by @SBix26? Maybe this will work until you are able to to try Inventor 2024.
