Hi,

I have an steel frame assy. I need to modify some members by creating a copy of assy, but still need to keep existing assy if in case needed in future ?

Is it Pack n Go good option or any other option ?

You can simply just copy and paste the file , but if you have linked files for that assembly from different location then pack n go is very much necessary so you wont lose the links, and it would help to isolate all the files linked the assy which you are doing pack n go still i would suggest you do pack n go.

Hi

I do that all the time.

The method I use is just to "save copy as" with another assembly name.

eg my original assy might be 18-0095-01-001-C

I will save copy as 18-0095-01-001-D, open that one and work on it.

That way the links are still kept, the original is still kept with its original name.

You can then just do a "component replace" or component replace all"

for the parts you want to replace, if the new parts are very similar,

or simply delete the unwanted parts and insert and constrain the new parts.

Works very well, I have been doing it for years

I only use pack and go when I want to make a copy of my idw's to another location and bring with

the idw all the linked ipt's, iams, etc.

The pack and go, sort of acts as an old or superseded copy, if you do updates on your original copies,

because these updates won't show in the location where you have "pack and go"ed.
