Hi all,

I was wondering how i could make the sides of my triangular object to have a thinner diameter without affecting those in the centre. It was a predesigned file by a senior of mine, so i only have access to .STL & .OBJ files. I have attached a screenshot of my attempt to do so in Fusion, but i was told by my peers that it could be easier done in inventor. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi! If the geometry is mesh, the option in Inventor would be limited. Inventor does not have a comprehensive set of mesh modeling tools. If you are a subscriber, you can go to the following link to download and install Mesh Enabler for free. The tool helps convert mesh faces to individual Bre faces. Then you can stitch them into a solid.

https://apps.autodesk.com/INVNTOR/en/Detail/Index?id=6950391119076900441&appLang=en&os=Win32_64

However, the problem is that in some areas, the small mesh faces make the geometry unnecessarily complicated. I personally think you will be better off recreating the geometry using simple sketches and extrude. Not only it will help thicken/offset/shell, but also it will make the model fully editable parametrically.

Many thanks!

Hello @Anonymous I see that you are visiting as a new member to the Inventor Forum.
Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Are you trying to make this with Frame Generator or conventional modeling techniques?

There are many ways to go about designing that shape, what is the final design intent? To be parametric and able to change to any size? It seems that most of it can be defined in one sketch and extruded.

If you can attach your attempt within Fusion, Inventor, or the .stp files to investigate that would help. Also, state what version of Inventor you are using so community members can supply the correct version so you can open.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if a post solves your issue or answers your question.
