Migrate Appearances of components to the Assemblys Default View with Demote?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if there is anyone who knows how to Demote components into a new assembly but keep the colors of the components?

Example: I have an assembly (Top Assy) with three components, each one with different Appearances set in the "Top Assy". The Top Assy is has the view set to "Default". I want to demote the components into a new sub-assembly using the "Components - Demote" function.

So far so good. I the colors of the components are still showing as before in the "Top Assy" after being demoted into the new Sub-assembly.

However when opening the new Sub-Assembly, which is set to "Default" View, the components have lost their Appearances set to them in the "Top-Assys" Default view.

I am quite new to the world of VBA so if there is any ordinary way to do this with an inventor settings I would appreciate any help. If this can´t be solved in Inventor 2018 standard settings but someone has a way to work around this using VBA I would be glad for any help I could get.

Hi Yadow,

It seems you have set three different color for each components in the Top assy which means you have set the appearance override assembly level rather than in part level.

The right process more like set the appearance in the part level. So try below steps:

1. In the top assy, clear all overrides firstly.

2. Double click one of part and set the appearance by in-place editing, go back to Top assy

3. repeat step 2 for other parts

Now, you can try to demote the component and everything is fine now.

Thanks, but that wont to since the components are library components and
cant be changed. Thats why i want to "copy" the override to the Assembly
they are demoted into.

OK, you have to place content center part with As Custom option and then you can modify the part as what you want. Hope it helps!
