How to Derive the hollow sections of a part into a solid? Please help.

Hi there,

Need quick help on making the hollow section of my part a solid. I assembled my part into a solid block that encompasses the part fully. I then derived the part out of it which left me with the hollow part as a solid. The problem is, is the block is still there and won't subtract out. Is there another way of doing this? Any help would be great. Pic of part below, STEP file attached. Thanks!

Hi! It is fairly easy to do. In the imported part, turn on the visibility of XY plane. Create another workplane at the end of the barrel. Use Delete Face command -> pick a face so the solid becomes a surface. Use Sculpt command -> select XY plane, the new workplane and the surface body. You will get the solid of void. There are other ways to do that. This is just one of the ways.

The file that you attached here is a STEP file, not native Inventor files.

For the best advice - I recommend you attach native Inventor files (make up files if you design is proprietary).

There are multiple ways of doing this depending on your intended use/result.

Multi-body within a single part file (that can also be pushed out to individual parts/assembly).

Derive Component as surface body into a new part file and Sculpt or Stitch.

What face? any face?

Different outcomes are possible depending on the users choice of "a face"...
