topic Material image not completely rendering Inventor 2018 in Inventor Forum

Hi All,

I have added an image file to my object`s material details to represent the actual printed pattern.

I did this with the parts material specifications and the view in Inventor displays the pattern over the entire surface as it should (picture 1). However, when I render the object Export as a Revit family only one quarter of the entire face is covered by the pattern. I don`t see any changes reflected when I alter the offset or scale...

I need the entire surface to be covered with the image. Ideally, I could stretch the image over the entire surface face. However, the only options to distribute the image are Tile or None. Does anyone know how I could solve this?

@Anonymous

The interface you have selected will limit your output..

Here's what you want to do

1. Define a 1 in cube and set your view settings to view realistic.

2. Select Appearance icon for quick access toolbar

3. Define a new generic appearance

4. Select the image section and pick your image you have. Select the image again and you should get a sizing dialog.

5. Enter the scaling aspect and how its supposed to tile. Since you're starting with a 1in cube your sample size is 1in

6. Also in the original appearance definition dialog, select bump and repeat the same process. And adjust this setting "Amount" to give your image some depth.

However.. Repeatable images must be repeatable or you'll see lines where the image repeats.. For example these are repeatable images and all sides line up so it looks like it flows together.

And images that are considered not to be repeatable (and looking at your image, its not really repeatable). Will look like tiles that are placed together that do not match.

Now I like to create an appearance in my own appearance library and then define a custom material using my own library and the use the appearance asset manager to define the material and appearance together in my custom material library.

Do not modify or add to the Inventor material library

Also I should've said this as well.. Before defining the appearance to the material.. Select a face on the cube and define that appearance to it. Increase the size of the cube and see how it looks. Tweak your settings as needed.

Hello @Anonymous you would have to have it setup so it is a tessellation where all the edges match up with the opposite, which might be quite difficult with that pattern.

Search: Tessellation Creator

As long as the left matches the right and top to bottom the middle can be designed a bit easier.

@Anonymous there isn't really any image manipulator built in, you would have to set that up in a photo editing program.

There is free photo editing software you can download if you don't have anything.

Always scan files and download anything at your own risk.

The image has to be able to pattern prior to bringing in as a texture. Here is a good link that might help you find a different way.

Inventor Moving Textures To Eliminate Transition Seam Line
