topic Part numbers model browser and vault browser are not matching after copy design in Inventor Forum

When I make a copy design my part numbers in the model tree are not matching with the part numbers in the vault tree. This seems to happen when copying files created in Inventor 2016. We are currently working in Inventor 2019 (recently updated). This issue does not appear when using copy design with new inventor 2019 files. I know that I can rename browser nodes, but I think this is not a solution. When we were still working in Inventor 2016, the problem did not occur. Then I just open and save the assembly and browser nodes where instantly updated.

Is there a solution or is this a bug?

Please find example screenshot below.

First picture; Model tree of the copy design with original file numbers ( not updated)

Second picture; Vault tree of copy design with new file numbers.

Model browserVault Browser

@Anonymous

For a test.. In your assembly browser, slow double click on the assembly name. When the entire name highlighted, delete the verbiage and hit a return.. Does the correct assembly name return? In addition you really can't compare the Inventor browser naming syntax with the Vault.. Since the Inventor browser name can be changed to any occurrence name where-as the Vault is showing the actual name of the file.

This only works for the main assembly. Not for the single parts. See image below.

I'm only comparing with the vault browser because i know that these part numbers are correct. The model browser should just update them with the property part number.

@Anonymous

If the occurrence (Inventor browser) name ever gets over-written, it becomes a static occurrence name. If that given assembly or component gets copied and renamed, the occurrence name doesn't update in the browser because its still static.

At this point you'll have to determine if the occurrence name of the indiviual component got changed at the assembly level or at the part level. If you open the component that has the incorrect name, is it correct at the part level? If not repeat those steps again. If its correct at the part level, repeat the steps on the component occurrence name at the assembly level.

Hi! To rename static occurrence names in the browser, you can use Rename Browser Nodes tool to do that.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/Inventor-Help/files/GUID-64CEED31-D107-4AA2-A5F9-EBC9335D0B5A-htm.html

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue

I know about the static occurence names and how to rename them with the tool. The point is that we did not had this problem with Inventor / Vault 2016. Occurence names where updated after copy design. I have just discovered that this problem also has its advantages. The assembly that i use to create the copy design has Ilogic rules. If the occurence names are not renamed the rules keep working. Thats a big advantage! But seeing old part numbers is very confusing.

Is this changed by Autodesk to keep rules working? I hope you understand my problem.

Hi! I can only guess since there are no files for me to try. I think this is due to the fact that the browser names have already been changed before Copy Design. When you said it worked before, it is probably that the browser names were default (file name/part number). Once they are changed to non-default names, Copy Design would not change them. Please feel free to share an example here so forum experts can help take a look and comment further.

Many thanks!
