Change imported assembly from inch to mm

Hello,

I am new to inventor and am having trouble converting an imported creo assembly from inch to mm. Is there a way to convert 1 inch to 1 mm?

It is easy to convert inch to mm or mm to inch, but you should not need to convert 1 inch to 1 mm unless you made an error in logic?

Tools>Document Settings>Units

If you really really need to convert 1 inch to 1 mm - please attach source file here.

(I don't have access to Creo at the moment and don't recall the terminology (Interpret? vs Translate?)).

If you can post a screen shot of Creo that will jog my memory. Otherwise it will be Monday before I have access to Creo.

As stated your question seems to imply "scaling" the assembly more than just changing the document units..

Do you really need to scale it? or just switch from inch to mm? (1in = 25.4mm) (tools..document settings..units tab)

1. You cannot Attach by email - you must use the web browser.

2. Polite way of saying user error. Always always always know what units you using (Inventor even indicates the units with all magnitudes, but I see people somehow ignore this).

There is a big difference between translating units (easy) and using wrong units (user error).

not sure but when I annotate and measure I get different sizes inch and mm

problem is the assembly was inadvertently drawn in inches in creo, I now need to import into inventor and use mm to create drawings

Just change your drawing to use mm.

Go to Document Option in your drawing.

Understood that the units used are not the desired units, but was it created with the correct magnitude (size) for the features? If it was create the correct size - (using whatever units) then the conversion is trivial.

Switching inches to mm by Options only works file by file. Lots of work.

Hi! I guess the user wants to "rescale" the geometry. If the file is STEP, there is actually a way to manually rescale it. Please take a look at a very old post I did long time ago. You can change the option in the STEP file so that the geometry becomes scaled on import.

Or, you could edit each part and use Direct Edit -> Scale to scale the bodies.

thanks. when I run the vba I still get same result as changing units via tools-document settings ie 200 inch and 5080mm

That's not enough.

Included IPTs or IAMs of sub-assemblies are needed, too. Best way is doing a Pack-and-Go and adding the result here as Zip file. Set hooks on Skip Libraries - Skip Styles - Skip Templates

Additional comment: Advantage of the VBA is converting the complete top-level assembly and it's components with a single mouse click. No file by file conversion is needed.

But it doesn't do any scaling. A length dimension of 200 inch stays as 5080 mm, and 1.75 inch are 44.45 mm.

Oh, now I see. This is really modelled in an unexpected size.

For instance, dimension 150 can be measured at 3810 mm, but doesn't make any sense. In reality it should be modeled with 150 mm.

I'll take another look later this evening, but comments from other forum members are welcome, too.
