i'm a former Creo user. it had a very useful window when you were working in assemblies. a lot of the time i'm working in a section view and 9 out of 10 times I can not see the part I put in to add to my assembly. always have to zoom out do a "free move" and drag it to where I can see it.

Creo had a little window that appeared when you added a part to the assembly. in that window you could spin, rotate etc. to orientate the part like you wanted before you constrained it. does inventor have something like that?????

if not can it be added? or let me know how I can guarantee to place a part in my assembly to where I can see it. how can I know I place it so its visible in a section view?

The only thing that comes to mind is right clicking before you place the part and selecting "Rotate [X, Y, Z] 90°" to spin the part. I don't work with sections that often, but I imagine if you just move the mouse around before you click to place the part, you could do the same thing you're doing now with free move, with less effort.

It doesn't have the little window as you describe it, but since this is relatively fresh in your mind, feel free to describe

it and add it to the Inventor IdeaStation.

As far as positioning, there are these commands before placing it that are available in the assembly tab.

Can you explain what tabs might help? All I know to do is select the part I wish to assemble and click in my assembly window and hope for the best

Creo user here:

The "isolated-part" window is handy. I am not aware of an Inventor equivalent.

I am not aware of a tool that helps when placing components in a sectioned assembly. Its more of a good luck kind of a thing.

I tend to have two or three design view reps with different cross section states that I change as I constrain parts.

Creo adds rotation and translation glyphs to the part in the main assembly while the constraint tool is active. Inventor does not, so you might try using the keyboard shortcuts to switch between the constraint, the move, and the rotation tools.
