inventor lt suite

I have a customer that is trying to make changes to a document but also save the original document as is-he thought he could through inventor but as he is going through the process it is changing the original also-what is the process to make changes but save original too? thank you,

Your posting a little unclear or perhaps confusing..

So your customer is trying to make changes/saves to a document but doesn't want the original document to be saved?

So is this document they're changing based on this original document? Did they do a save as? Is this document a drawing or Inventor part file?

Sorry for the confusion!

He is trying to make changes to an original document and wants to save the changes to the original but also have the original as is to go back to.

The document they are changing is based on the original. I don't think he did a save as because he wants to keep the original also. The document is through inventor router systems and is an assembly hose run that he is trying to create a similar system.

Does that make sense?

First Inventor LT doesn't support assemblies.. Only drawings and parts.

So in Windows make a copy of the current configuration as a backup/secondary file.

Like what was said already Inventor LT doesn’t have routed systems so not quite sure what your trying to do in Inventor LT

I spoke with martin and realized-he is using inventor professional and the original is a 3d model that he needs to save as is and then also be able to use as the base for another that he wants to keep with changes. is this possible and if so what are the steps to get done?

It all depends on the model structure.. If its a T&P model there are more than just the top assembly. There's adaptivity and etc in the model. But it sounds like you want to take an exist hose run and use it in another model, is that correct?

May I also ask.. Instead of you being the middle person that this "Martin" actual start a discussion so there's no information that lost going back and forth or miss communication..

This is current situation.
I construct model1 with hose runs.
I open model1 and save as model2. Make changes to hose runs in model2. Same changes reflect back to model1. How do I keep this from happening??

Just because you copied the top assembly model, doesn't mean the components underneath it get copied too.. If top model assembly "X" contains part a, b, and c. And you copy assembly "X" to "Y", assembly "Y" still uses part a, b, and c.

You need to copy all the model structure so its separated.. You need to either use iLogic Design Copy https://synergiscadblog.com/2014/09/23/copy-files-easily-with-ilogic-design-copy-even-without-ilogic-rules-in-the-design/ or Design Assistant.

Hello @Anonymous to add to what @Mark.Lancaster mentioned, copy design is probably the way to go.

You can do it the long way by saving a Part as a new name then in the Assembly use Replace Component, but for more than a few parts it is not really a timely alternative.

Would adding the Vault for Data Management and advanced Copy Design features be beneficial for them?
