Making .ipt from .dwg file

Hello,

I want to create an .ipt file from .dwg file.

This is what I've done so far

1. Create a new part

2. Create a 2D sketch

3. Insert .dwg file using Sketch >> insert

And then followed this solved post

but It's not working for me

Would be great if someone could make me a screencast or something

I would suggest - create a sketch in Inventor and extrude it afterwards.

Not sure what Inventor version you're using but here's another workflow you could use to take 2D to 3D..

First thing I recommend is cleaning up the AutoCAD dwg BEFORE importing into Inventor.

There is some rubbish geometry well away from the Origin and the Target geometry.

The target geometry should be moved to the Origin.

The Target (and Rubbish) is so far from the Origin that it appears as mere dots in this screen capture.

Also, you did not state what version of Inventor you are using.

The units for the geometry in AutoCAD is set to Inches.

When I measure the geometry - I suspect that the intended units should be mm.

The AutoCAD operator could benefit from training in AutoCAD.

The AutoCAD geometry is of very poor workmanship with several locations where lines are not trimmed to tangent arcs.

I would not trust the source.
