Hi All,

I am trying to work out way to constrain a door motion which swings both ways of door frame. I need position reps like door closed and open inwards and outwards. I am attaching files so u can see. Its small file so limited no. of files. I also need bit of guidance for securing hinge. The body of door frame and door is plastic moulded so hollow inside. Not sure, if need to reduce hole size or increase plate thickness for threading of screw ? Sending remaining items in next.

Thanks for help.

Regards,

yash

Hi Yash,

I had a look at your model. While constraining it is not a real issue - the way you have modeled it is. The hinges itself will not work in real life, for example. You are in Australia. Talk to your manager. I can help you with this project if he is interested.

Cheers,

Igor.

Hi Igor,

Thank you for response. I do realise Hinge is an issue. I have drawn just roughly and while working through assembly, I realised pivot pin or round shud be big enough to accommodate both plates when folded. At the moment, plate is 5mm and round is 10mm exact double and its centred. Either I offset the plates from round so both plates can fold above each other and be flat or increase size of round.

Second thing is, centre plate is not constraint just 2 end plates. I also feel, the gap or clearance between frame and door is not enough for 2 mm. maybe increase it. Model was made so we can prepare quote for moulding. I am in developing stage so need your help.

As far as your helping goes, there is no IP issues as no part number disclosed. I am sharing to ask for help too. You are most welcome to solve it but why will I need manager permission ? Meanwhile, I had another issue, I was trying to animate and record video. Inventor studio created its own position rep above what I did in model. rendering is totally different. See the pdf attached. Rendering is totally different than position rep. I have attached video too. avi is clear but too big so attaching wmv.

Thanks and Regards,

Yash

Hi,

I have modified my hinge by offsetting the plate from centre. Please see attached parts and assembly.

Hello @Yashasvi23481 it would be helpful if you could use Pack & Go as .zip to attach your files, that way the references don't break and you ensure that you are attaching all of the parts.

Like stated, the hinges are a bit problematic as designed, should be an easy fix. A good way to design them would be to use Derive as Surface so that they match up easily.

For the hinging, there are a few different ways. You could Constrain/Assemble the cylindrical hinges together and then use Constraint>Assembly>Angle>Explicit Reference Vector and define the Limits.

With the new Joint>Rotational you can skip a few steps and do all at once with the Limits there.

I'm assuming your issue is that you Constrained the hinges in their assembly and can't get them to rotate in the main assembly. If you RMB on the hinge sub-assembly in the Model Browser and select Flexible it should allow them to move.

If you can attach the updated parts it will be much easier to evaluate your constraint setup and give more accurate suggestions.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if a post solves your issue or answers your question.
