Johnson my friend,

Autodesk responded to my many, many crash reports by sending me to 'AutoDesk Directly' Filipe helped but we were unable to resolve the cause of the crash. We installed an avi codec, but it didn't help. He did process the video for me and sent the result which is very good. The output file is 10x the size of the file I was able to create. I have asked how it was done.

I enjoy making videos. It is the one escape from the drudgery of modeling and detailing technical documents. It is a shame that ADSK doesn't fix Inventor so that we can enjoy some part of the process.

Inventor presentation videos .ipt are poor resolution. Wasted a day building in that environment.

Switched to Studio. Crashes if save to .avi. The only way to get a decent output is to save as frames and put together in movie software.

That would be alright except the Studio environment will not allow control of position rep velocity.

I have pos. reps. moving alright, but instantaneously. No matter how much time I give or velocity profile selected they are instantly on and off.

Days I have spent on this garbage.

If you know that what I am trying to do is futile please advise. I have burned through the cost of new subscription in the last few days.

Thnx.

I do not think you are wasting your time. I did a simple Inventor Studio Positional Representation to AVI (without full rendering to cut down on time) and it works fine. My model is very simple but it does work. My zipped AVI is attached. I am using Inventor 2019.1.2 with a very modest workstation.

Hi! I am very sorry for the trouble you are having with rendering an animation. Inventor does have some rendering and animation workflows but it is far from perfect compared to other dedicated animation tools. For the crash, did you send in the crash report? Could you send me an email so I can take a look at the report?

Many thanks!

I've had similar experiences. Several years ago I tried to animate a LEGO crane in Studio. I didn't get a convincing result.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/problems-with-driving-constraints-in-posreps/td-p/6630374

And you're right, rendering more complex animations in Studio can only be done as single pictures. Otherwise it's crashing in most cases.

J

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Are you able to control velocity profile of transitions between positional reps.?

Thank you for your response to my post.

I did find that I could produce quality video using the process you describe. My model was not built in a way that makes automating constraints easy. When I discovered that I could automate positional reps. I thought I had my solution. Then I discovered that I cannot control the velocity profile of the position reps.

No, I cannot govern the velocity profile between transitions.

You mentioned that you sent in crash reports. Do you still have the report IDs? Or, you can send me an email directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com) so I can dig up the reports to understand these crashes better.

Many thanks!
