Good afternoon forum,

I'll keep it simple. I want to be able to import a basic excel spreadsheet into my Inventor drawing to show as a spare parts list that I can then update in Excel when it is necessary to do so.

I have read a couple of other posts on the forum which do not seem to have clear cut answers as to whether this is possible.

Can anyone clarify for me, in Inventor 2019, is it possible to do this?

Thanks,

Tim

select all the data in excel and then copy..

Then use "paste special" in Inventor and check the "link" button so that changes to excel are updated on the drawing.

Note there are some limitations with anything but fairly small tables... Don't expect a massive excel table to come in properly.. But a simple spare parts list should be easy..

Thanks for your advice, I couldn't find how to do the paste special to take data in to the drawing.

However, I did find that I can just use the Annotate>Table>General function and select an excel spreadsheet from the source button and then it imports directly.

Thank you anyway!

Hello All,

Thank you for your advice and suggestions. I found for my needs, the best solution was to use the Annotate>General under the table heading and select the source file to be my excel spreadsheet I wished to use as a parts list. This worked really well and meant that when I added new items into the table, I could simply click 'Update' in Inventor and the new lines would be added into the parts list on the drawing.

TRA

Yeah but using a general table removes a lot of the functionality you get in Parts Lists. Renumber is not available, for example.

This is yet another reason my company will be switching to another software next year.

Hi! It should just work. Please share the files in zip here. I would like to understand why it cannot be delinked. In the meantime, go to Tools -> Link -> break the link there,

Hi! I see the issue now. You would like to keep the content of the general table intact but unassociate it with the Excel file since it is no longer available. Unfortunately, there isn't a workflow like that. You will need to delete the table and recreate it manually.

Many thanks!
