Building Container model from scratch

I'm sure most Inventor users are well aware of how the software works. If you've the attached detail drawing, how would you "plan" to build the assembly file.

To cut the long story short(someone else built it but refused to help me lengthen it), it used to be 17000mm long but has since increased to 17200mm long. In 6 months, I've to produce the latest model.

Feel free to let me know should you need any other information or documents in any other format.

You have an Inventor model, presumably an assembly and all its components? Then you have everything you need to make the change. It will take a good bit of investigation on your part to understand how the model was constructed, but when you do, you will be able to edit the parameters of individual component parts and make the desired revision.

I would advise making your changes to a copy of the assembly (and the parts that will need to change).

Sigh.....I was Revit training, hence my colleague did it

She only shared the STEP file w me, she locked up her original file where there's sketches & dimensions. I can't do much using pack & go.....

And what happen to your colleague? Why isn't she involved in the project any more?

I'm the only drafter for this super big & long term project, be it in Inventor, 2D drawings or Revit model. She was approached to help me as I had to be away for training. Since I came back, she simply don't want to be involved, no matter how my boss approached her to help

No problem. I just like to have some ideas how Inventor users would plan to build this container from scratch. We've parts, definitely will have quite a few assemblies & mate the assemblies together, etc......And I believe all understand that with every iam file, we need the ipj file or the path to where it's kept, etc.....

I want to plan & organize the files in my thumbdrive properly.....

Well, that is a topic, which is hardly can be covered in a scope of this discussion forum. You need to get an experience designer on board. Who is versatile in Inventor and although - has a great deal of practical knowledge of how things are build in real world. Otherwise that project will keep bringing you one frustration after another.

True.......but I don't need to include anything on the inside, I just need to produce the shell, the container & everything that's outside

Subsequently, I won't want someone else to produce models on my behalf

Hello @elaine.chan if you only have the STEP file to work with that makes it pretty difficult to edit the length easily. You could try Direct Edit and see if that helps since you just need to lengthen by 200 in only one direction.

You could slice the part in half, insert both halves into an assembly, draw the connecting middle 200, then Shrinkwrap everything back into a STEP file.

Problem is there'll be many parts & assemblies or sketches that I've to "dig" into to increase the overall length. I'm thinking to rebuild the container on my own again.

@elaine.chan you could use Derive as Surface to bring in the reference geometry to draw quickly from using Project Geometry.

If you want to share the part using Pack & Go for community members to look at to find a quicker way that would be helpful.
