Hi all,

Question...

I'm trying to create a drawing template to always include a sheet at the back with a view of the profile and the standard tolerances we agreed with our supplier to eliminate having to specify these every single time.

So what I did is create a dummy part of the profile, inserted this as a base view on a second sheet indicate all the general dimensions and tolerances, add some informative text and save it as a template...

Problem is, when I create a new drawing from this template Inventor asks me to replace this base view with no option to leave it as it is, basically undoing all the work from making a template.

So second option, I draw the profile in a sketch on the second sheet, annotate the sketch, add tolerances and informative text and save as a template again...

Now I start a new drawing and the sketch is gone!

$%@! 😩

Anyone know how to simply add in a base view or sketch in a template which doesn't get replaced or deleted?

And at Autodesk, why can't we just save sketches in templates, or opt to not replace baseviews from a template?

Big thanks for anyone who can help me out.

With kind regards,

You should be able to create a new Sketch Symbol that should stay on the drawing

Edit:

Just discovered you cannot dimension that.

Yeah also noticed that you can't annotate it...

Another option I just tried was using the Draft view and attaching the sketch in this view, but even then when creating a new drawing the entire view just vanishes...
This is becoming so difficult that it defeats the entire purpose of using templates, which should be doing exactly this...

Only other option left is to save it as a normal file and create copies of it when making new drawings, but that's a VERY dirty way of doing it...

Ok went really desperate, but found a work around...

I took a screenshot of the annotated drawing, and inserted this as an image and apparently these do not get deleted...

Now I must say that my technical heart is actually bleeding from this, but at the moment it's apparently the only way Inventor will let me do it.

Please, please, please find a way to save and use sketches or "fixed" base views in templates, since this would eliminate all of this.

Hi,

Thanks, I tried your solution and it seems to work. I would have rather stayed in the idw format since all our drawings are made in this, but for now it seems this is the only way to do it.

I did have place all the annotations and tolerances in the AutoCAD block since you're not able to place dimensions on these either.

Gonna head over the Inventor Ideas forum to pitch that this should be alot easier to do.

Thanks!
