Unable to Make Edits on my .ipt File

So, today I opened up inventor, just like any other day, and I went to change the material of a part assembly, I have this issue for .ipt and .iam, and making a copy of the file does not help. I have a screenshot. This is a very rough issue.

Hi! The error message indicates that the file is located in a library folder based on your project setting. Close the file and go to Get Started -> Project -> look at the Library folder paths. I bet the part is located in one of the folders. Library files are not editable. You should put your work-in-progress files in \Workspace\ instead.

Please avoid posting duplicate threads. The forum is very responsive. We have experts around the world reviewing the forum constantly. Posting duplicate threads does not help get your issues resolved sooner.

Hi! Either you change Project setting so that the folder is no longer a Library folder or you move the ipt file to \Workspace\.

How exactly would I change this from read only to editable?

Ok, so I believe I removed it from library, but it now gives me a different error message.. Here it is

Hi! The warning message indicates that the file is readonly. Please go to File Explorer and change the file Read/Write access so that it can be edited.

Obviously that's not the issue, this is really not fun, thanks for the help so far, but we really need to figure this out, its beginning to get frustrating.

I understand it can be frustrating for not finding a solution. It is equally frustrating for us not to understand the issue. If this is a prevalent problem, it should have been reported. Something is off here. Could you share the file here or send it to me? I would like to take a look at the file to understand the behavior better.

Hi! Not all parts are attached. 3.175MMBeforeTopDome.ipt, 6.35MMBeforeTopDome.ipt, and PistonPiece.ipt are still missing. Which part are you trying to edit? I notice that some parts are located in \Content Center\ folder. Why? I don't think you are allowed to edit files in that folder, since it is consider a library folder too.

John, it looks to me that there's some basic misunderstanding.

1. Contentcenter (CC) is not the place for storing parts or assemblies, that have been made by the user. CC is the location for purchased parts, standard parts or structural components

2. Your piston is in reality a single part. But you placed every feature in a separate IPT. Honestly said: That's nonsense.

The piston must be only one IPT, because of part list needs later.

3. Your way of modeling could be better. No grounded part in the IAM, no constraints at all between components

4. Placing all your parts outside of CC: I didn't try that, but shouldn't it be possible, copying all this misplaced stuff from CC to a new folder, and working there? After that succeeds, CC should be cleaned by deleting the files in that place.
