Hi Massimo, sorry no this is not possible other than deleting the yellow one and then recreating the constraints on the item to the right. However, if you right click the item on the right and look at iProperties, you can copy/paste the location of the file so that when you do a replace component, you can paste the location and get there quicker.

First of all, wow. This seems so basic and is not a feature? It was a feature in pro/e wildfire 16+ years ago. Second, can I copy the assembly and components to a new folder and then replace one component with an updated component that has the same name? Will it then pull in the new component in the same folder or will it search the old folder for the old component?

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but how would the software know what file to replace it with without searching for it? Out of all the parts, how would it know what you wanted exactly?

If you want to make a copy of this and edit it, please use one of the following:

If using Vault, use Copy Design.

Or close all documents and use iLogic design copy

Or use Design assistant.

These are the best ways to make sure that the assembly links to the new files and not the old ones.

In some software I have used, it records the file location, not just the file name, when a part is added to an assembly. So if you move the assembly file, it will look in the same folder for the component every time. Some will default to searching the current folder before searching the original folder. Depends on the application. That's why I'd like to know which method Inventor uses.
