Inventor: How to convert .skd / .skf files to .dwg / .ipt

Hello guys!

Does anyone have a solution to situation that I am experiencing. We have legacy files in .SKD format.

How do we convert or open these sketch files and convert them to be used in Inventor/AutoCAD or any other workable formats in current times.

You need to have Autosketch to convert the data to .dwg files.

Thanks for your response, but need a 64bit solution as most of the machines are 64. Or try unti I get hold of 32bit machine.

I think there is no 64 Bit option. That's why they are stating to use a virtual machine when you don't have 32 Bit system.

.skd files are from the old AutoSketch 2/2.1. To open this files you need a newer AutoSketch (8 or 9 or 10, you can install it in a 64 bit environment too). Here you can open the old skd-files and save as dwg.

If you have only a handful files to convert, upload here and someone will do it for you.

I managed to run the converter on Virtual XP but the problem is that when I click save as only two options are available. See the attached screenshot.

Is there an "export" button instead of save as maybe?

Or a "save copy as" vs "save as" button?

Hello @Anonymous!

I think you misunderstood this article How to open old AutoSketch files in newer versions

This is just for converting old Autosketch data (2.0 and less) to 10 so you can save it with Autosketch to a DWG.

When you don't have Autosketch installed there will be no other option to convert this files, like it states in this article I wrote before: How to open or convert AutoSketch files in AutoCAD

"The drawing needs to be saved to DWG format from within AutoSketch"

In Google type in "autosketch download" and you will find something that will maybe work for you. But you will need a serial number for Autosketch.

From official side, we discontinued this product in 2008.

When you got this program running, please make sure to convert every legacy data you have to .dwg. That will make it easier for you in the future.

How many files do we talk about here?

In a german Forum we have this question several times a year. And the users were helped every time ...

Can you post one or two of your oldest files here to check first if they can be converted?

Hi,

In 1998 I've builded a own house and designed the electricity schemes in a early version of AutoSketch.

In the mean time I need to modify those files as I'm making drastic changes to my home and need to have update schemes for our local building authorities.

I'm looking for a kind sole able/willing to convert 10 files SKF files (attached in ZIP) to a DWG format.

Are you or do you know who would be able to convert them?

I'm in a similar situation. I have autosketch files created in version 5. I still have my old distribution software CD for version 5. However, my 64-bit Windows 10 balks at installing it. Message says: "This app can't run on your PC." Can you give advice as to how to get it to run so that I can retrieve my drawing files and get them converted into something editible? Thanks.
