I am trying to change the geometry for a part created in 2015, now using 2017. I have a number of sheet metal lofted flanges, surfaces and thickens I want to delete. But when I try and delete one, I get the cursed error message in the title. I doesn't crash inventor, but it doesn't delete what I want. I'm pretty much stuck now - can anyone help?

Hi! The error message indicates some sort of corruption in the file. I took a look at the part and move EOP to the bottom. I am seeing quite a few sick features. Which are the ones you are trying to delete?

Many thanks!

I opened the part on my Inventor and as my colleague Johnson said, there are some features that need to be fixed.

Before deleting the ones that return the error, could you please try to fix the ones which seem to be sick?

I have the same issue when working with solid bodies when doing some major changes you get a lot of broken features that you want to remove or repair . Moving the EOF to the top of the feature tree and working your way down for me is the easiest way . The RTTI error is one of the many bugs in Inventor that makes it extremely frustrating to use. I have never had this issue using other software.

I have found that if you get this error, save your file and shut down Inventor. Restart Inventor and load your file and you will be good to go again. This error may or may not pop up again until the feature tree has no broken features. If it does just shut down and restart again.

Working from the bottom up also works but sometimes you will get a stubborn feature that will keep throwing up the RTTI error.

Hi Nick,

The RTTI data is an error due to some sort of corruption. Just by looking at the error, it is unclear where the problem is. A few things to try. Make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated. Clean up %temp%.

Does the error come from a particular workflow or particular dataset? Are you able to reproduce it consistently?

Many thanks!

We are running Inventor 2023, all updates/drivers are current for all software, Anti virus security has been setup with allowable permissions and so on . It is vary clear that Inventor is the problem. This seems to be Autodesks go to for fixing issues just blame other software products.

Basically you have a rather large multi body , the customer decides they want to change the design. So when you start altering the geometry you get a lot of broken features in the feature tree that needs to be repaired. You roll back the EOF and start repairing features . Some features you don't need so you delete them up till the RTTI error pops up.

It happens quite regularly so yes the error can be reproduced consistently.

The work around is, once the error pops up, is to save the file, shut down Inventor, restart Inventor, open the file and then you are able to keep rolling down the EOF fixing the broken features.

Hi Nick,

Did my reply imply that was not an Inventor defect? Installing Windows updates, updating the graphics driver, and cleaning up %temp% can help weed out certain instability issues. I am sure the issue you are seeing is Inventor related. But, I need an example. If possible, please share the file with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com.

Hi Nick,

I suspect some of the files might be corrupted. Did you send in any crash report? If yes, please send me an email johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I can use your email address to find the crash reports to understand the crash better.

I fully understand your frustration. I am more than happy to help. But, I need more information to take further action.

So far the information you provided is not yet actionable.

Many thanks!

When this error occurs, Inventor doesn't crash so no crash report. As I have said before the workaround I have found is to save the file, shut down Inventor , restart Inventor, load the file and then you continue repairing and deleting features in the feature tree. I think if the file was corrupt, as soon as it was reloaded it would create the same error again. From what I have read on the internet and what I have been told by fellow Inventor users Inventor has had this No RTTI Data error when trying to delete features for years. So Autodesk must be aware of the problem.

Hi Nick,

No RTTI data is an error when Inventor tries to access a method or a property that the object no longer preserves. Or, such method or property is prohibited at a specific context. The behavior is a symptom of bugs.

Yes, we have seen this error before. You can search for the phrase on the forum and there will be some old threads about this. However, the condition to trigger the error isn't unique. There could be different ways leading to the crash. We have to take a look at each case individually.

If you have reproducible steps, please let us know asap.

Many thanks!

I often have this error when I have a multi body part with lots of bodies and then try and modify the design where I don't need certain features anymore and add new features or bodies.

Please Autodesk try and sort this out and at the same time Inventor loses so many reference bits of geometry that its fast becoming the worst CAD software to use.

I have attached my file so anyone can use it and see if they can delete the suppressed features just above the EOP
