How to assemble from a Multiple parts in one drawing sheet.

I'm new to this forum.

I was wondering how i can, if possible, assemble parts that i drew in one drawing sheet. The problem i ran into right now is when I go to create a new assembly, All the drawings show up as one part and i can't click on individuals parts.

Hello @Anonymous I see that you are visiting as a new member to the Inventor Forum.
Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

It looks like you modeled many parts within one part but only have one solid body.

If you create each feature as a New Solid you can then Make Components and push into an assembly.

Would probably be easier to create each part separately and then bring into an assembly.

Hi Kelly,

thank you for your response. Yes i ended up drawing them separately and then assembling them. The only reason i ask is because most of the 2d parts i get are from Autocad and my fellow coworkers draw all their parts in one drawing. So I just export the drawing into inventor, which is why i thought knowing this would help me save time .

If you choose to use @kelly.young first suggestion and make a new solid from all components, select the first feature of the SECOND part in the part model and in the Browser select "Edit Feature". Choose the following, this will create a new solid body. Then proceed to the third component, then the fourth, etc. You can then use the Make Components command to automatically create an Assembly from the multiple bodies.

I suspect you are new to Inventor also so the Make Components command will be a little alien to you so maybe the second suggestion @kelly.young gave you will be the better choice.

Yes I am new to the inventor. I came from solidworks background. Thank you for you suggestions! It will save a lot of time in the future.

TIP:

If you create all parts in proper place, when you go to use make components to create the assembly, all the parts are already in place.

TIP2: If you have a background in solidworks, inventor works in a similar way

Thanks for the additional info @Anonymous. There are many different ways to use AutoCAD files.

Try this:

Create your first part by linking the .dwg (or pasting the geometry into a sketch.)
In the browser tree Share Sketch
Create New Part
Derive the first part
Include the Sketch in the prompt
Create your second part
Repeat
Now any changes made should push through top all parts

I'm at AU sitting in a BIM360 lab without access to inventor so I can't show you but hope that helps!
