Hi! This behavior could be related to the Autodesk Material and Appearance Library or Inventor Material Library. Could you go to Control Panel -> All Programs and see if the followings are installed?

Autodesk Material Library Base Res Image Library 20xx

Autodesk Material Library Low Res Image Library 20xx

Autodesk Material Library 20xx

These libraries need to be installed and present so the appearance will behave correctly across multiple Autodesk products in the same release.

Many thanks!

I used content center files to create a library

when I bring the part in, it represents its self with a blue piping symbol (see pic), if I drag copy the part it then shows up with the typical part symbol (see pic). how do I get the part to come in the first time and display as a standard part file and not the blue piping file?

When working with piping components from the content center, if you have the routed system module loaded, they come in as the bluish piping tee and under the control of the routed system module. If you disable (load behaviors/Tools/Addins) the routed system module, they will come in as standard content center component icon as any other content center component. If you want the part icon you have to bring them in as custom and not as standard.
