iPart members behave differently from one another

Hello,

Does anyone know the difference between these iPart members? They have different icons, though they are all from the same factory.

The occurences with symbols where the little yellow box is behind the grid act as expected: opening them from the browser bar of an assembly brings you to the factory, and it then tries to make the corresponding member the acting model to display. 3D Model commands are also grayed out.

The occurences with symbols where the box is in front of the grid act kinda odd: opening them from the browser bar of an assembly takes you directly to the member file, and no 3D Model tab commands are grayed out like they usually are had you opened the member file from file explorer, so you can edit away.

Any one know what's going on here?

How old is the assembly?

Did you create with a recent version of Inventor?

Thanks for the reply. The assembly that I am trying to open the ipart members from may be as old as being made with Inventor 2017. I have replicated the behavior with a new assembly made in Inventor 2019 where I just placed a bunch of different members from the same ipart factory, and some still have different icons. I think this is related to the ipart factory itself. Possibly due to some member files being generated with a newer version of Inventor. Not sure.

Hi! I don't believe it is related to when the files were created. The ones with a table in the background are iPart factory files. The ones with a table in the foreground are iPart member files. Factory files cannot be inserted to an assembly (only member files can). However, if you convert a regular part, which already exists in an assembly, to an iPart factory, it will stay in the assembly with the table icon in the back.

You will need to use Replace Component workflow to change it to a member file.

Replace component workflow on the factory files in my assembly does not replace with the member file, but instead with the same factory file. When I create a new assembly and as I place different members from this same iPart factory, some have the member icon, and some have the factory icon. This goes against what you said about factory members being unable to be placed in an assembly. I have a video that I would like to include, but whenever I attach the .wmv, the post does not go through.

I am attempting to attach a .wmv file, but whenever I click Post, I get brought back to the same Reply to Message screen, and the video has be removed as my attachment. I fear this may be the thread has been marked as solution by Sergio. Maybe videos cannot be attached after solution? I have definitely attached .wmv files in the past.

I think its how the iPart is added to the assembly.

See if some of them show the table, and some don't.

I don't remember which way is the 'correct' way to add them to assembly.

I think drag and drop from Windows Explorer is the 'wrong' way.

Hi! I have downloaded the iPart factory file but I cannot seem to reproduce the behavior recorded in your video. Do you have different iPart member with the same names but stored in a different folder path searchable within the project?

Or, if you make Length not a key column, does it work better?
