Unable to create library

Hi guys, first post here, so please be gentle with me. 🙂

I'm trying to create a read/write library, but i get an error message saying " Unable to create library".

I have my libraries locally on my drive, no write protection. Tried changing directory where the libraries are placed, but no change, still the same problem.

Been searching for a while for similar posts without any luck. Anyone here who can perhaps point me in the right direction?

Never mind, I see that it's 2019 in the save path.

Not a solution for your problem, but more information anyway: I have no problem creating a new Read/Write library named Test in the same path as you are showing.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps you have your Content Center Files location set to the same folder? The CCF location is treated by Inventor as read-only, though I don't know if that would prevent creation of a new library there.

Edit #3 I just tried, and having the CCF set to the location of the libraries, while a really bad idea, doesn't prevent a new library being created there, so I am out of ideas.

Hi! The default folder to story CC Library files (.idcl) is under \ProgramData\. You will need admin privilege to be able to save to the folder. It sounds like you are not allowed to write there. If I were you, I would do the followings.

1) Go to Inventor -> Tools -> Application Options -> Content Center -> find the library files folder. It should be under \ProgramData\.

2) Go to the folder and copy all .idcl files and create a new folder outside of \ProgramData\. Then paste the .idcl files there.

3) Go to Inventor -> Tools -> Application Options -> Content Center -> change the library files folder to the new folder.

After that, you should be able to create a new read-write library. Or, you simply request full admin privilege to your account.

I already tried placing it all in a folder on my desktop, with the same sad result. But now i tried placeing the folder directly in C:, it worked fine!

Must have some strange restrictions somehow, since i can copy and paste however i wish, but not create a library on the exact same place.

But at least it works now! Thanks a bunch!

I'm having this issue today on INV2021. Tries moving directly to c drive without success. Are there any other things I can check?

Hi Brad,

I am sorry I am not 100% sure your issue is the same as the original one. Please make sure you have read/write privilege to the folder you want to move the CC library idcl files to. Also, share the error message you are see.

Try running Inventor as Admin (right-click on Inventor icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Run as Admin).

I hate to dig up an old post, but I thought it might be interesting for future users:
I just experienced the same issue on a new workstation.

You might have full administrator rights, but if you are not the primary account on the workstation/laptop, Inventor will not be run as and administrator by default and you'll be unable to create any new libraries. To solve the issue, as said above, run Inventor as an administrator. You can also go into the properties of the Inventor shortcut -> under Advanced -> and set it to always startup as an administrator. Saving you any future trouble.

I do have to add, even if you are the administrator, you will most likely have to adjust your default security settings of the content center folder before writing to this file. This is done to avoid unintended changes to the program data files and settings. Right click on the intended folder (in this case 'content center'), navigate to the security tab, select the appropriate user and make sure 'Full control', 'Modify' and 'Read' privilege's are check marked. This should apply to all downstream folders. (try not do this at the 'program data' level).
