Assembly References are Locked/Broken

I am a lead CAD designer for my robotics team, FRC #4239. We use Inventor 2017 for all our of our 3D design needs, and it suits us fairly well. Abruptly, all of our assemblies in a certain folder (the one we use for this year) are breaking, bringing up the all too familiar Resolve Link screen, however we cannot select the part to resolve, even though it clearly exists, the program simply resets itself asking for the same part over and over again.

After skipping all, nothing of the assembly remains. This error occurred after saving one of the assemblies after making all the parts Aluminum under the materials tab. At 9:46 this morning, all of the dependents under that file were saved, but the assembly itself is royally screwed. Earlier than that, it was completely fine, until we converted it to aluminum. All that remains is unsolved links, and strange boxes around the part icons on the left. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Much more info available upon request.

Are you using Project *.ipj file?

Put all of your files onto one folder, zip and Attach here and I will fix this issue for you for all time.

Would the .ipj file solve these issues? We’ve not had anything similar at all, and never used the .ipj set up. But we have had other minor bugs and inconveniences. I will be able to get back to you Monday with further information.

Hi! Like JD mentioned here, I think this is related to lack of proper \Workspace\. When you did not set up your own project and you used Default, Inventor would rely on absolute path to find the files. I guess you might have copy and past or move files to different folders. I don't believe it has anything to do with assigning Aluminum material style.

Another possibility is that some of your teammates are using Inventor 2018 or later releases. Some of the files were saved in later versions than 2017. Are you sure everybody on your team is using 2017?

Okay, sounds good. If I were to set up a project, could I move our entire folder (broken down by years, mechanisms, etc) under the project folder, or select our current folder as the project? And yes, I think one of our team members did view the files on a home computer which has a newer version of Inventor over GrabCad, this could possibly be the explanation. Thank you for your help!
