Need to change default material

Currently my default material is generic. How can i change the the default material to aluminum 6061 polished?

If you just want to change the material for the current part, select the corresponding material from this drop-down menu.

Thank you for your quick response, but i need the default material for ipt files to be aluminum 6061 polished. Not just for one individual ipt file but for all.

Open your associated template file and change it there/save.

~~Those are the names of appearances, not materials. There is a difference.~~

The reason your default appearance is Generic is that your default material is Default, which has the Generic appearance assigned to it. If you want your parts to default to aluminum, then change the material in your part template(s) to be one of the aluminum selections, or create your own. In either case, if you don't like the appearance assigned to a given material, change it by editing the material and picking a different one.

Edit: never mind, I had it backwards. What @mcgyvr said...

In addition, just start a new IPT, change the materials to the desired materials and if you want any appearance changes and then use the "Save Template As". They when you start a new part, select the desired template.
